Good ol Willie. His full name is William S. Davis, after his owner. Sadly he isn't running now because something got broken (they wouldn't tell me what) and they need the parts. Luckily, the parts are on order, and they should arrive shortly.
Great Smoky Mountains Railroad 2-8-0 #1702, former US Army / Warren & Saline River / Reader / Fremont & Elkhorn Valley... recently back in service following a year of running gear work. These pictures are from 2001 and 2002. In the second photo you can sort of make out the American Heritage Railways logo on the tender, same as those on the tenders of the Durango & Silverton locomotives (American Heritage Railways operates both lines). For more on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad: http://www.gsmr.com

This is in my opinion the best looking locomotive ever to run the rails anywhere. It's my favorite becouse it used to run right behind my house as a kid. The day NS Axed it's steam program was a sad day in my life. Even though it's not relistic I hope for the day when she is brought back into excursion service. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=54515 Paint Shop, Yonder Locomotive Works. Couldn't agree with you more. I am quite fortunate that on her last run through Michigan, she was on a long layover in Milan and I got to climb in to the cab for a few moments of drooling and utter reverence to this magical beast. 'Tis a shame that her fires have been dropped, it was way too soon for she is missed.SeanK97
