I have had encouragement and/or endorsement to start another screenshot contest, and (hopefully) this thread will be anchored for the duration of the contest. The contest is open to anyone who can provide illustrations of any kind (MSTS screenshots, photos, drawings, etc )relating to trains and railroads that have the broad theme of the UNUSUAL, REMARKABLE, POIGNANT, DANGEROUS, and FUNNY.Entrants can have up to three entries each.If and when there is a dead period when no more entries of screenshots are being made then a deadline for closing will be made and kept.If it can be arranged I would prefer the judges to be anyone who can post in with their vote.To start the ball rolling here is my entry. By the way the crew of the Santa Fe were later released from hospital suffering from shock and minor burns. <>New screenshot contest of the unusual, remarkable – image 1Mike

RE: new screenshot contest of the unusual, remarkable..

Wow! I have never seen so many coaches--how many?I cannot believe that forum members have absolutely nothing interesting to show in this light-hearted competition, so I would really, really be impressed if the early indications were proved wrong. Anyway, in the absence of being trampled underfoot in the stampede, it seems sensible to lift the restriction on the number of entries that one can make.
Here is another entry of mine: CNN again have given me exclusive rights to more spectacular footage--this time of the devasting forest fire which nearly destroyed a whole freight train. CNN, reporting from the hospital bedsides of the two recovering crew members, quoting the engineer, said "We had no choice but to unhitch the freight wagons, and we only had seconds to spare" CNN also reported that one of the crew members in a wheezing croaky voice said " We unhitched and highballed the hell out of there." A Santa Fe spokesman said that apart from a fresh repaint the locos are in good condition thanks to the vigilance of the crew. Mike<>New screenshot contest of the unusual, remarkable – image 8

How long till those deer are poached, rare? Somebody'd better crank up the heat, please, me so hungee!Reminds me of the historic placque on the mountainside to the pullover alongside the westbound lanes of I90 just inside from Idaho: 1910 Fire - went on to say that that immense firestorm originated in the valley below and swelled so much that it blackened the skies over Montreal and London and interfered with North Atlantic navigation -- cheesh! I remember for the first couple of years after Mt. St. Helens that London's daytime skies had a slight tint/hue? of red whatever the weather.Cheers,

hey Mike, May wanna try a bit less compression, it's really killing your shots, and they look good, but the jpeg compression kills all, remember, 100k is the max, you got alot of slack to work withShawn K,

Hi Icy,Thanks for that tip. The problem for me was finding a large enough forest fire photo off the net; unfortunately, they don't come much bigger than a postage stamp, hence the less than perfect quality particularly when I join the two photos together to create an illusion.you obviously don't have trouble but I would like to pass on some tips of my own to those that might be reading this:First when you are creating a screenshot use the maximum quality of the screenshot program--mine is Rapishot. The explanation for this (tried and proven) is that after having put this created image through a program like photoshop and then saved the image using a minimum rating for quality, which then finally goes through Infraview, you will see it to be of a higher quality that had you used a lower resolution first on Rapidshot.Second: When you are going to use an overlay of two photos, then always make sure that you have a brightly coloured train in a very , very light route such as Tehachapi.Third: have three shots of the train coming towards you: straight on(not quite) and the other two veering to either side in the screenshots. That will give you a better choice in selecting which screenshot will look better.Fourth: Airbrush any horizontal line like a horizon, or at least soften the contrast between light and dark along that or any noticable line.

Again CNN has allowed me to show some exclusive footage of a tornado strike on the Santa Fe freight train. a Santa Fe spokesman last night said "The twister picked the caboose up as if it were a toy" he then went on to say "The crew member is lucky to be alive with only a fractured collerbone."Mike Michael Sinclair

The day my dad found that the NCVA train was really long. They told the engine to pull into a siding and wait for a CSX train to pass. The train just cleared the switch when the CSX train showed up. If the NCVA had 1 more car the train would have blocked the switch. While the train was passing, my dad walked the train and found the car. I was sick the day he found it, but got a laugh out of the shot!Jason Underwood

I have heard Cart (Champ Car World Series) was broke, but I didn't realize that they were so broke that they can't stop the train from crossing where they're racing at or durring the race. I am sure how low those cars are Michael Schumacher himself could probally find a way to duck under a car on that train and make it through.

Back when I was getting started on doing PH-V Superliner Cars I decided to figure out how to change Shape File size to make James Hunt's Superliner Cars more prototypical in Shape File Manager. The Problem was I was testing it out on the Default Superliner shape so I enter 120 in the scale size box, thinking it was 120 percent of original size. As it Turns out it made the car 120 times bigger. I soon relized the error but I found the mistake to be too funny that I had to post a screenshot of it anyway (And leave a personal copy of that car for myself). So Behold the Mega Superliner:

Amtrak's New Mega Superliner Cars can hold Tens of Thousands of Passengers while runing roughly on the outside of the rails.

I'm sorry but the Surfliner wont be out for a while but I got good news.
I just saved alot of money on my car insurance.

Now that is funny. Reminds me of the exceptionally bad (and thankfully short-lived) TV show "Supertrain." Early '80s IIRC.

>to quote: "a total waste of pixels"! I couldn't agree with you more. Michael Sinclair is also admittedly blending MSTS shots with other copyrighted material he has found on the web, which is a violation of copyright law and is clearly a violation of this forum rules. Icyfire has just posted new rules, that posts glamorizing death and destruction will no longer be tolerated so maybe things will change.
