Well, I got my copy of GR2 today and thought I should share with you some screenshots from my first ride. The route featured in GR2 is the mainline from Bremen to Muenster, modelled as it was in the early 70s. The route has been electrified only recently, and conversion to light signals is in full swing - meaning that you will encounter a hodgepodge of old-style semaphore signals and light signals .Well, what can I say - this must be THE most realistic-looking routes I've ever seen. It's kinda hard to describe in words, but when you stop at one of those wonderfully busy-looking stations with people and thousands of items on the platforms, combined with rakes of cars spotted in the sidings and AI trains coming in to meet you, you will know what I mean. Perhaps some of the below shots might give you an impression of what to expect. The overall makeup of this add-on is probably similar to GR1 (which I don't have, so I'm making some educated guesses here). There are two instruction booklets, one of which contains a complete "Buchfahrplan" for the entire route in both directions and for passenger and freight trains alike. The other one is actually more of a fold-out sheet with a route map, an elevation profile and an illustration showing all signals (both light and semaphore) you will encounter on the route. More detailed information about the trains are provided on the installation CD, as are a number of track plans for at least almost all stations. All this information will basically enable you to play the provided activities without any driver aids, if you're brave enough (which I confess I'm not...yet).Well, on to the screenshots . I took them while driving an ET 403 Intercity trainset (nicknamed "Donald Duck") from Bremen to Muenster on a sunny summer morning. All trains provided with this add-on are nicely done, featuring custom cabs and sounds (even for AI trains) as well as passenger views where appropriate. There are even separate low-detail models for AI trains to take some strain off your system.
In short - this add-on is a must even if you only have a remote interest in European-style railroading. As I said, this is my first add-on from the German Railroads series (been playing only Pro Train so far )...both of which are truly excellent in every respect, which makes it almost impossible to say whether I prefer GR over PT or vice-versa. However, one thing I can tell you - GR2 is a definite keeper.
