The photos are of my Modern Tehachapi Pass Route (Developers Edition).I've downloaded items from Fligh-Sim and convert them for use in MSTS. However it takes a lot of work, time, patience and reskinning and sometimes rescaling of the aircraft.I included photos of thoes aircraft item I have found in Train-Sim.Com, UKTrainSim, and Flight-Sim.Com. I've also found large ships (Aircraft Carriers, Frigates, ets) at the Flight-Sim sight (for landing Navy planes and hilicopters on. There also animated ships at Train-Sim.Com.The Photos of the green by-plane is from UKTrainSim and it flys!!! The blade spins, and the plane rolls downs the runway, takes off, climbs to an elev. of about 100m, then flys an oval circut of about 2K X 800m, lands rolls to a stop, waits a few minutes, then starts over again. At Train-Sim.Com is also Blimps that fly circles. The UK site also has all kind of people to populate your train stations or airports, birds, hawks, sea gulls all of which fly circles in the sky. Butterflys that flutter about flowers. They also have all kinds of livestock and nature animals.I am currently working on several additional military aircraft for my Air Force Bases (A-7 Corsair, F-7U Cutlass, FH-1 Phantom) and another helicopter (Sikorsky CH-19) that I've downloaded from Flight-Sim.I may someday try to get permission to upload these aircraft and ships to Train-Sim.Com if I can get permission. It seem the individuals at the Fligh-Sim sight are touchy about alllow their creations to be uploaded to another site. You can use them for your pleasure but that is about it. However if there is a strong enought demand I will try to get permission. I realy don't think there would be a problem once I explain to the origional creators what the intent is and give them credit.Safe and happy railroading to ya.

I hope you get good FPS with all the work you put into making Tehachapi a Metroplolis. It looks outstanding! I would ask you to burn me a copy of this, but my FPS on the loaner I'm using probally wouldn't even register.ChrisFestival of Trains, NRHS 2003 Convention, June 2003, Baltimore Md. www.borail.org www.nrhs.com

RE: Modern Tehachapi Pass Route (Developers Version)

First my system is a 1.7 GHz Pentium 4 w/1024MB PC133 ECC SDRAM on the motherboard, 60GM ATA 100 Hard Drive, GeForce 4Ti 4600 Video Card w/128MB DDR RAM, and a 19" KDS XFlat hight res .24mm DP 75MHz Monitor set at 1024 x 768.Now as for my FPS. Pulling 64 High poly billboard refers with a GS4 4-8-4 and a berkshire on the front end and a Cotton Belt 4-8-4 on the rear pushing, in the real heavy areas I get pulled down to 6 to 8 FPS, and run between 14 and 17 FPS in the open areas. With two Dash 9 pulling 36 plain jane tank cars in the same areas I get pulled down to 9 or 10 FPS and 20 to 28 FPS in the open areas.Just a note 8 FPS is OK and seem smooth. However 6 and 7 get a bit jerkey. At the points where the next tile regens the next scene, for a second or so I get pulled down to 3 to 5. This is really bad but I prefer the detail and there is only a spot or two that only the steam get pulled down this bad. With the Dash 9's I never drop below 8 FPS.About the route: The main part of the route between Bakersfield and Mojave is much as it really is to day or what you would expect to see. The Metropolis area is a spur that I extended another 25 miles and developed an area loosely based upon Oakland which I call East Bay. This is the spur just east of Bakersfield which branches off to the south and just ends or used to.The orchards are along the main line just east of Bakersfield and I also have vineyards. I tried to place these where they actually exist. I have also extended the Main line West of Bakersfield about another 30 miles. I also put in the Kern River in West Bakersfield which was missing. All in all there are only a few places where my FPS are pulled below 8 FPS and I can live with that for the detail. Mostly 8 PFS is fairly smooth so I try to keep every above 8 or 10 with the large steam pulling billboard reefers, as anything else will breeze through these area with out any heavy FPS hits.Happy and safe railroading to ya

RE: Modern Tehachapi Pass Route (Developers Version)

Any chance you want to send me your folder on a CD? I have the original version, and 3dtrainstuff's only request with members sharing Tehachapi folders, is that both parties have the original developers edition. They just want to make sure that nobody is getting the route for free. Your route looks outstanding, and I would love to be able to run it and explore what you have done. Please contact me at bogleyc@msn.com if you would be willing to mail me a copy of your folder. I would gladly pay you a few bucks for your troubles.ChrisFestival of Trains, NRHS 2003 Convention, June 2003, Baltimore Md. www.borail.org www.nrhs.com

RE: Modern Tehachapi Pass Route (Developers Version)

LAST EDITED ON Dec-10-02 AT 10:49 PM (EST)

Do you know what you are asking for????Is there something pertictular that you want???For example for my Tehachapi Route the ref file is 352KB in size and has over 8960 lines of programing for over 1507 shapes divided into 68 catergories, ie: Vegetation, Vegetation_Brush, Vegetation_City, Vegetation_Desert, Vegetation_Flowers, Vegetation_Forest, Vegetation_Valley, Vegetation_Weeds, Vegetation_Wetlands.This is the only way I can keep track of all the shapes and find what I need easily. My Tehachapi Shapes folder is 205MB in size and has 4520 files. My Tehachapi Texture folder is 788MB is size and has 3,343 files. As you can see it would take 2 CD to hold all this.90% of everything I have is available for downloading from Train-Sim.Com, UKTrainSim.Com, FlightSim.Com, and Abacuspub.Com. Other than the items I created for myself with Train Sim Modeler. Some of the Aircraft, and ships (Aircraft Carrier, Frigate, Battleship, ect) I have are from FlightSim.Com and must be a FSC file which I import into Train Sim Modeler where I reduce the model down to its basic needed as a Static object trying to keep the file size down to a min.. It is then rescaled to the proper size and reskined and textured as these shapes most times have no skin or textures and come across 5 times their proper size. Most all the items have special request attached to them concerning their use and distributation. Most of the Aircraft from FlightSim.Com are for the downloaders use and pleasure only and not for distrubition or uploading even to another free site. If there was a strong enought demand for these aircraft I may try to get permission from the owners to up load what I have done with their creation to Train-Sim.Com, I would hope if I explained to them the need, they may agree to have their creation as modified by me to be uploaded to Train-Sim.A few items, (the aircraft Piper Tripacer and Sailing Schooner Strathcona) are from friends and otherwise not available. These item were sent to me by special request.I guess I am not sure what you are asking for when you ask for the shapes and textures. The shapes and textures would almost be usless without the ref file to access them. To bulild a ref file for over 1507 shapes would be overwhelming. My best suggestion to you would be to serf the downloading areas of Train-Sim.Com, UKTrainSim.Com, and FlightSim.Com. and download just the items you think you need. I doubt that you would need or want everything I have concerding it will add an additional 1.2GB size to what ever route you add it to!!!!Happy and Safe railroading to ya.
and lots of luck.

RE: Modern Tehachapi Pass Route (Developers Version)

Adamb:I am considering your request. Your request seem legitimate, that is as legitimate as giving someone my developed route which has all the shapes and textures with ref file inbeded in it.The only real problem seems to be with the aircraft and ships I've downloaded from FlightSim.Com. They, generaly speaking, seem to allow their creations to be available to the origional downloader only, to be used for that individuals pleasure. However it would seem that they, or at least some of them, have problems with the downloader up loading their creation to another site free or not. However, it seems that the general consensus of the sim sites is for their creations to be made available without cost for the enjoyment and use of the end user and to further the developement, palyability, and fun of the sim games. Now that brings me the the final problem: giving credit to the origional creator. As you can image with over 1507 shape referenced in my ref file, giving credit to individuals become a logistical nightmare. Maybe I could come up with a catchall disclamer or phrase what would cover the intent and legal issues with out naming all the individual creators. There would also be a problem trying to reasearched all the name of the creators for all the shapes.Maybe some of the rest of you out there could give your opinion and insight for my consideration. Thanks. However in the mean time Adamb, if you could get me your email address through Nels Anderson we will see what happens. Currently it seems to me there would not be problem with your request.Nels: being you operate both the Train-Sim and the FlightSim sites, you could give me some help here.Abamb, note that it will be a couple mounts before I finish the Tehachapi (that is if I get laid off for the next several mounts as usual) at which time a Beta version would be available to those few whom I have promised it to and who already have the Developers Edition. At which time the shapes, textures, and ref files would be also finish, compiled and available. If it all works out, good things are worth waiting for.Happy and safe railroading to ya.

RE: Modern Tehachapi Pass Route (Developers Version)

Tom,There are several times I have downloaded a route, and seen a general "thank you" to the many people that contributed to that project. Sometimes, and as it appears in this case, it is not possible, or really nessersary to thank each person. Generally speaking, your route will only be given to a few lucky soles, myself included. Perhaps this might work:This route contains creations and works from far too many dedicated people from flightsim and train-sim.com. I woulds like to thank everyone who's works I am using in order to make my route the way it is. Please except my gratitude for your hard work, and willingness to offer your works so that route developers can make our routes come alive. Please except my apoligies for not naming everyone who's works I have used, for there were far too many people to keep track of.Hope this helps, a little Tom.ChrisFestival of Trains, NRHS 2003 Convention, June 2003, Baltimore Md. www.borail.org www.nrhs.com
