LAST EDITED ON Dec-29-03 AT 07:47 PM (EST)

Does anyone else besides me have a freelanced/fictional railroad that you use on MSTS (besides the obvious, well-known ones, like the ADFRR, Rich Garber's rr's, etc.)?My fictional road is the Chesapeake, Potomac & Allegheny, and pretty much acts like the B&O, C&O, WM, Chessie and CSX never existed.CP&A GP60 4007 (new paint scheme, since 1991)

Thanks Kyle. Got the color scheme from the Maryland Midland, only I used a darker blue. For some reason, in the screenshots, the orange stands out alot more than in the sim. It's not as bright in the sim.Chris Denbow - Baltimore, MD

Haulin' grain on the Indiana Northern

LAST EDITED ON Dec-30-03 AT 10:00 PM (EST)

In the late 1970's, the newly-created Conrail abandoned hundreds of miles of trackage throughout Indiana, in order to eliminate duplicate routes which once competed with one another. Unfortunately, many areas were left without rail service, leaving the local industries with no convenient way to get their products to market. My new Indiana Northern Railroad (reporting marks INOR) is based on these abandoned routes. Most of the lines radiate out of Logansport, IN which was once an important hub for the Pennsylvania RR. The main lines run from Logansport to Chicago, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Louisville. Also, the former Erie between North Judson and Huntington is included. The Indiana Northern was founded by a group of northern Indiana businessmen who realized how severely the region's economy would be hurt by the loss of local rail service. From these humble beginnings, the INOR grew to become a successful regional system reminiscent of Wisconsin Central or Montana Rail Link.As the company became more successful, all trackage was upgraded to allow 60 mph running, with heavy continuous welded rail, frequent long passing sidings, and CTC signaling installed. Grain is the lifeblood of the INOR, but manifest freights, and hotshot intermodal and autorack trains are frequent sights as well. CSX and NS will also have trackage rights, and the TP&W route west of Logansport provides a convenient route around Chicago's congestion for BNSF's hot intermodal traffic to and from the East Coast.A loaded grain train is headed eastbound on the Kokomo Subdivision just out of Walton, IN:Freelanced/fictional Railroads – image 17This is the original paint scheme, introduced at the company's founding in 1976. Six basic colors were used: red, green, blue, orange, yellow, and purple.Freelanced/fictional Railroads – image 18Here's the current INOR paint scheme, introduced 1995. It also appears in six basic colors: maroon, red, orange, purple, green, and blue.Freelanced/fictional Railroads – image 19Freelanced/fictional Railroads – image 20

Sounds more like the rainbow road... hey, I guess that would make it a "RR"

RE: Freelanced/fictional Railroads

"Does anyone else besides me have a freelanced/fictional railroad that you use on MSTS?" Well, indeed I do (did)! Seeing as you seem to be interested in diesels, I'll post pics of the fictional diesel route I was tinkering with as a learning tool many moons ago: The Kansas City & Gulf, Ozark Subdivision, circa 1969. It was a competing line to the KCS, and had to take the tougher shot through the Ozarks. Was theorized to run from KCMO to New Orleans. I was modeling it during a reorginazation attempt right after they'd filed bankruptcy. Here's a couple of pics of an Alco RS11 I painted/grundged for the KC&G. It's sitting at small service facility for helpers at Limestone, Arkansas. (Also had some fictional steam stuff.)Andre Ming

Railfan727!!!!!
When did your INOR come out?
Illinois Northern has been around since mid 1999 and uses the INOR reporting marks. If yours came before 99 i'll change mine but otherwise those reporting marks are taken and I'd ask you to change yours to avoid confusion with the Illinois Northern. Thanks

I haven't painted any freight cars yet... the only place the reporting marks show up so far is in the filenames for the locomotives. At this stage of the game, a reporting-mark change is not an unreasonable request. I simply didn't realize INOR was already in use.Would INRR be an acceptable choice? It's not in use by any prototype railroad, or any free-lancers as far as I can tell. While we're on this topic, it would be great if someone could maintain a list of what reporting marks are in use by free-lancers, to help prevent this sort of thing from happening in the future. My apologies...Bruce Bridges

I like the idea of a list on reporting marks but that may be tough as there are so many people around and I got 2 railways. And I betcha everyone else has 1-3 fictional roads. Mabe just focus on the big ones... who knows. Or the INOR's just ake a n aggreement.Kinda neat reading this eh.Chris Wilson

I don't have any screens of mine but I can tell you about 'em.Cornerian Rail: Their diesel engines and coaches and cabooses are in a rust brown color. Steamers are black. Logo is a diagonal piece of track with the lettering "C.N" in big silver letters and "Cornerian Rail - We haul for Corneria"Katinan Rail: Diesel engines and coaches and cabooses are all gray with a thick line of black across. Logo is a running fox with the slogan "Deliveries swifter than a running fox"MacBeth Mining Co: Their diesel engines and steam engines are in a very dark red. They are in general very dusty, dirty and sooty. They have the lettering "MacBeth Mining" on the sides in big capital letters in Impact font as well as M.B.M.C on the sides of their tenders. Logo is a mining pick and a shovel with M.B.M.C in the middle.I hope you like my paint schemes. /JonatanSteam rules!

To the original poster: Very nice livery scheme. Looks very original. If I hadn't known better, I would have naturally assumed it was a "copy" of the real thing. Well done. I myself have a fictional RR (actually two) Priest River Railroad (PRRR) and Mt. Cascade Mining Company (MC). With a route to boot in Hoodoo Pass. Look at this web page of my livery schemes on loco's I use. http://home.kendra.com/comet61/models.htmKipFreelanced/fictional Railroads – image 44

My railroad is currently celebrating it's 150th anniversary (two units are in the paint shops in Baltimore currently receiving commemorative paint jobs, CW44AC #150 and SD40-2 #8150) this year (2004) and run on CSX's current system, of course, in my freelanced world, there is no CSX, WE are CSX.
