Interesting to observe the different ways Trainz deals with elements. I note that the terrain texturing is carrying the detail, and not actual 3D detail. Smart move to save computing resource. Since it appears the method relies heavily on the texturing to produce scenic impression, it is good that handles terrain texturing better than MSTS. What kind of computer system specs would be required to smoothly run those scenes as viewed? Andre Ming

Those are indeed some incredible shots. Nice work on the textures - especially the water effects.Andre - the system needed to run scenes above in Trainz is less than it would take to run the same in TS. Trainz handles alphas much more efficiently than does TS (tree density is a big bottle neck in TS), but can also handle about twice the poly count in a scene.Cheers!

Thanks for the comments MarcI'm not sure what MSTS does for waterfalls but the ones in TRAINZ are animated falling water. Certainly makes the scenery come alive.cheers

"What kind of computer system specs would be required to
smoothly run those scenes as viewed?"Hi Andrethe layout was created on a 1400 AMD with 256 mb ram & GF3 video. The frame rate performed beautifully on that spec machine but a little extra memory would have helped to avoid the occasional pause to load content.I also tested on a 600 P3, 384mb ram,GF2 video with very reasonable results. While the frame rate was slower the extra memory reduced the pauses to load content.cheers

RE: MURCHISON LOGGING - the ultimate steam experience

Guys –Over the weekend I installed the Murchison route on my mid-range PC (AMD2.4, 128GeForce4, 384RAM, Win98SE, Trainz2004).The level of detail is absolutely magnificent – animated smoke from camp fires and the chimneys on buildings, animated spray from the waterfalls, dense foliage, highly detailed trestle bridges, detailed logging equipment, wires on the telegraph poles, … . Quite frankly, the detail is considerably better than any route I have used in MSTS, and over the past year I’ve tried most. The sounds are superb – the sea, water falls, birds songs, log cutting, flange squeal on curves, … .And the frame rates are so much better than any I have experienced in even the most basic MSTS routes. The screen grabs shown above do not do justice to the route. The “experience” is incredible. As a long time user and supporter of MSTS I was initially rather sceptical about Trainz, but I can assure you that it is worth while buying Trainz2004 just for this one route. Although there is a freeware download, be warned that the payware content for the route is also needed to appreciate the full effects.I’m still feeling my way around the Trainz package. As an example, what I would like to do is increase the power of the narrow gauge locomotives to better cope with the steep grades. In MSTS I can do this easily, but try as I might I cannot in Traniz. I realise that this is not the appropriate forum, but I’m desperate and if anybody can provide advice to me off-line it would be greatly appreciated!Phil Skene

>Adelaide, South Australia These types of things can be edited in the train's config.txt(like a *.eng in MSTS) file, to find this you need to somehow find out the KUID of the engine specs for that loco, and then find that folder in your main Trainz directory, then World/Dispatcher/downloads.
Hope this gives you a start, and the guys at the Auran Trainz forum will surely help you too.Stetson

For those who have not been to New Zealand, I have to tell you, that this is a very good and authentic representation of NZ bush scenery. This route is simply amazing!SirGibby, I would like to see more scenarios for this route! But this is just a suggestion... Cheers!SebastianFeel free to IM me on: sstyrnol@hotmail.com

RE: MURCHISON LOGGING - the ultimate steam experience

Mike, Stetson -I've finally worked out the answer to increasing the power of the Shay, and I guess the same is applicable to all other locomotives - see my latest reply in the Trainz forum at this site under "Queensland Garrett".Now that the beautiful Shay can haul a few more logs I'm now really enjoying the Murchison route!Best,
Phil

RE: MURCHISON LOGGING - the ultimate steam experience

Hi Sebastianthanks for your comments on Murchison.
Almost all the texturing is taken fron Mew Zealand and the terrain is real terrain based in the real Murchison (NZ) area so I'm trying to mske it feel like the islands down-under.As for the scenarios I have not gone down that road yet. I find that the rouet building/modelling is where my interest lies and is taking most of my time. The Lucy's Gully scenariop was written by another person. When I've finished my modelling I'll get into the scenarios.Phil thanks for persevering on the loco power. I'ts great that you found the answer.cheers
