How is that route for just doing run throughs Chris? I have thought about getting it, becasue of the detail, and its not that much money, but with about 12 miles of mainline, I think my trip would be short lived. I just saw this and thought I would jump in with my own thoughts. First, the pics are great! What's really neat is what you see in the pics is how the route really looks. Sometimes when the pictures are compressed, it makes things look better because the textures are less in detail and with the smaller size, you don't expect to see much detail. But with photo textures there's alot of information within the detail that gives alot of detail for a large picture. As for mainline running... First, the focus of Canton is to reproduce a very small route which allows the completion of activities within an hour or less. Typically 45 minutes. There's 40 activities of just my own available for switching where some running on the mainline is given. However the focus of the activities is more so about 'life on the railroad.' Sometimes you get on a main to run a few miles to switch cars elsewhere. Sometimes you start switching right away to eventually take your cars to their destination. Sometimes the activity is just plain switching. However you look at it, switching is what you do on Canton. If you enjoy long mainline runs of a hundred cars or more, Canton won't be a good fit. You are well aware there are lots of routes available already for this type of activity. But if the switching bug ever hits you, Canton route is great to pull up and run the trains. The detail adds to the switching pleasure because the detail lends to the authenticity of the 'need' to switch. It helps create an environment that there is an environment out there worth switching for. What's even neater about the detail is because it's all in scale, you can look at it without having to rationalize why the scenery is incorrect. Floors match floor sizes, doors match door sizes and so forth.Rich Garber
Chris(SVTS) The route can be used for runthrus as I tend to do alot. It takes around 15-20 minutes to go Canton-Interchange yard so its a fast short run. Especially with the 45mph speedlimit There are some hills so one coming from Canton you'll be using your DB's abit then after Jefferson you'll be working the throttle.Usually to lengthen my run I will make a set out in Jefferson. Other then that I like it for some local switching action.
Here are a few pics from a runthru train I ran last night.
