You did say photos. I'm game! 56Kers beware, these are uncompressed, just resized.From the head-end of the Coast Starlight as we rounded a curve while headed to San Luis Obispo (This one's now my desktop ).

Amtrak along the tracks – image 17 One of the Surfliner trainsets headed towards LA from San Luis Obispo, had the full-length dome on it.
Amtrak along the tracks – image 18On our way back on #14, the southbound Coast Starlight, I took this picture of the sunset at Santa Barbara from the P42 I was in.
Amtrak along the tracks – image 19The next day I was on Surfliner 583, aboard cabcar #6904, headed to San Diego from LA. That's #3, the Southwest Chief, arriving at Fullerton as we do.
Amtrak along the tracks – image 20This is a few days later, my last trip on the Surfliners, and we were lucky enough to get the low-level set. Here's the trainset, from F59PHI #460, as we round the curve between Orange and Anaheim.

These pics are not contest quality, but I thought they migt be of interest to Amtrak fans. They were taken with my 5+ year old Sony
FDC 81 camera that takes about 5 seconds to write a pic to disk.I was driving north on Lehigh ave in Chicago, and had just passed Oakton when I spotted the #7 in my right side mirror. I turned into a parking spot and got 3 shots as it passed doing about 60mph. I was surprised to see 3 F42s up front, followed by the usual EB consist,
2 private cars, 4 express cars, and 2 trailers.I'm not sure but I think I took them on Monday Sept. 8th.

Digging through my pictures I found a few more that some of you may find interesting. All of these are from the cab of a Surfliner cabcar or F59PHI, or are of a piece of Amtrak equipment. I think they are still in the interest of the subject. On our return to LA from San Diego on Surfliner 775. This is at Hobart Yard before heading over the fly-over and past Amtrak's 8th Street Yard.

Amtrak along the tracks – image 43Stopped at CP Oneil waiting for a southbound Surfliner to clear so we can resume our trip to LA on 775.
Amtrak along the tracks – image 44I just happened to catch F59PHI #463. Customers of the Surfliner pre-release may recognize this beauty.

Great everyone! I love all of them! I almost forgot: the winner can put 'Winner of Crescent's Amtrak Photo contest' (or something like that) in their signature, or, a lifetime supply of "virtual" coffee for all those 5-8 hour runs in MSTS!

Actually I think that that was a very special baggage car that used to be on the Vermonter train, but was taken off, painted into Phase V, and placed into regular baggage service. IMHO I would have picked Dan's cause I loved how he came in there and put up his "real pictures" - typical sound guy - roflmao. Brian's were great but you have to give Dan some extra points for style - lol.

im not a big fan of amtrak but they are a good railroad company since they are the only passenger service through the u.s. So in a matter of speaking i am a fan of amtrak. -Matt

Eh, he's just getting rid of our craptastic Kuju Amfleets. =PAfter all, Amtrak doesn't run any all Amfleet coachclass trains on electrified, one-track routes, especially with catenary wire and gantries that look THAT bad and unlike anything in real life! =P

Chuck, I really LOVE the Amfleets and AEM-7's that you guys made! Also, I don't think those are your Amfleets, because, the ones you made had a much smaller "step" on top and on either side side or had none? Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks!

And you are correct (sorry Chuck) - those are NOT our Amfleets in that derailment shot, they ARE the Kuju-Krap. Easy identifier is the "box" thing at the ends of the roof that aren't actually supposed to be boxes but should look more like - well, like the NALW Amfleets! And RATS - i missed an Amtrak photo/screenshot contest! Guess that's what i get for not coming around in a while!------ BUZZ ------

Another thing you can tell its the Kuju twist ties ( LOL ) is that the red, white and blue fades off as you move away as I noticed.Best Regards,
