Colleagues,Those of you that watch the route developer forum, have seen some of must posts there. Currently, the project is the 2nd Subdivison of the Milwaukee Road, Rocky Mtn. Division, with the NP included as well, however, the NP is secondary to the main show, so it's breaks are not at crew change points, although all of it's crew change points in the area (except logan) are included.Tonight I will share some images of the Olympian Hiawatha (which did not have a BiPolar in this region until nearly the end of passenger service, by which time the BPs were that nasty armour yellow). These images are on the east slope of Pipestone Pass around Fish Creek Tunnel #10 and bridge CC-344, also called Fish Creek Viaduct.I am not very good at scenery issues, but I'm doing my best, and once this is released, probably in early 2004, anyone can value add to it as they wish - I will post my rules for that in the "readme".J. RE: Route under construction

By the way, I failed to point out that the pantograph on the BP does not quite touch the catenary. Milwaukee catenary was nominally at 24' above the rail, which is why the Milwaukee was limited in the type of cars it could handle. The BP was done by a lad in Germany and evidently he used some standard for European catenary. In the Route Design forum this evening, I posted some other images using a beta Box Cab set, and the creator of these and I collaborated to be sure the pantograph touched - he even has a "spark" at that point.J. RE: Route under construction

Recently someone uploaded a series of rock textures intended to be used for terrain texturing. Two of these have the names: rocktex_2, and rocktex_1. Using TGATools, I reconverted these back to tga files so that I could use them to texture objects. I have also created custom terrain textures by mixing them in halves or quarters with the terrain texture (scrub_terrain) and with the scrub_rock textures. Then I created, among other things, a tunnel portal, concrete imbedded into rock, and some rock shapes. The procedure is the same. Create a multisection (I use TSM) block, with perhaps 30 or more sections per axis and as large as is reasonable, maybe 30ft.x30ft. Texture the sides that may be visible using the rock texture. Generally this is all sides except the bottom and back. Make sure that the surfaces are opaque in the properties window. Once textured, convert to point mode, and then pull & push points and groups of points to get a rough surface. I generally leave the backside and bottom flat, but with the other surfaces, anything goes as long as it looks random. When satisfied, save it, and then create a TSM object in your route.Place the rock whereever you wish, rotating it or tilting, and/or imbedding it to different depths in the terrain. To make a tunnel portal, start off the same way. Then decide what the vertical tunnel dimension & width are. Typically with modern tunnels, this will be 26-28' at the top of the arch, and 14' or so wide (single track). Now create a disk with radius equal to 1/2 the tunnel width. Place this disk where the tunnel opening is to go and position it so the top edge is at the top of the tunnel, and it is centered on the opening. Now raise the bottom surface to form the arc around the top. When doing a tunnel, the bottom surface will have to be textured as well. When creating a solid rock tunnel with concrete lining, use a concrete texture for the bottom surface, but use a rock texture for other surfaces and roughen up the front surface by pulling & pushing points. If it is to be an all rock portal/tunnel, then texture the bottom surface with rock, and roughen up the inside and outside of the tunnel.Jerry

RE: Route under construction

Jerry,
As a Milwaukee fan, I too have the Bi-Polar electric. I highly recommend getting the cab view from http://mikemad.de/msts-elektro.htm
Scroll about half way down the page. It's not perfect, but looks a lot better than using the Acela cabview. I've been watching your progress on the Route Design Forum and can't wait for the release of this route. Keep up the great work.Take care,
Rich S.

RE: Route under construction

Thanks, Richard. I downloaded the US version, and will install it soon. The BoxCabs use a cab view taken from some Italian locomotive I believe, but the originator is working on improving those.Jerry

Yes, it is. Milwaukee had 5, E1-E5. They were used on the Coast Division of the Milwaukee, which was part of Milwaukee's "Pacific Extension"

Until the late 1950s when some Bi-Polars were sent east to the Rocky Mountain Division in Montana & Idaho for work there. E2 still exists at the transportation museum in St. Louis.Austin
