I am sure that many of us are model railroaders as well as train simmers (and foamers) so I thought I would post a few shots of my layout, which is a work in progress. Hope you like.Layout Shots – image 2

Mike, Plywood is how mine started. But being part of the La Mesa club you have a great route to run, the Bakersfield / Tehachapi Pass area of California. Used to live in Oceanside, CA. before moving to Atlanta, and I loved going to Balboa Park and seeing the trains. And Rich, thanks for the tip. Will give that a shot.Layout Shots – image 13

RE: Layout Shots

John,
Nice, I have a "N" scale layout I've been working on when I'm not train-siming, don't have any photos yet. Here's a tip, I've found DAP chalk that comes in the plastic tub great to simulate mortar on brick buildings. Just rub it into the cracks and wipe the excess off, it makes brick buildings stand out.Take care,
Rich S.

John-Chris-
Nice shots. Brings back memories. BTW! John. I found out where that model railroad layout is in Blairsville.
Might be an interesting trip for the group.Hawk"First thing I remember knowin', was that lonesome whistle blowin'-And a yungun's dream of growing up to ride-

Here's some of my HO scale layout. It's of a fictitional WM/B&O interchange with some yards. 734 doesn't have a laser for a headlight, my camera just made it look that way.

RE: Layout Shots

That is some great stuff you guys have! Reminds me of the layouts at the Great Edmonton Train show last week. I still have some old models in a big trunk in my basement. The 1st engine I got was a zebra striped Gp9 for Xmas back in the 70s.Rory.

The red warbonnet in the 2 picture was actually my first engine ever purchased, in 1973. It was in storage until 2 year ago when I finally moved my train stuff from my parents basement into mine. It took a few minutes and a bit of oiling and the thing runs like a champ. My uncle (who is a live steamer) helped me detail it when I was 16, and now 30 years later it is still part of the layout.Layout Shots – image 35

His dad buys most of it. His dad also worked for BNSF for 20 years. Or.... he worked for BNSF once it merged. I can't remember what rr he worked for before, ATSF or BN. But he does have all that stuff, and many cars.

RE: Layout Shots

I've enjoyed looking at the other layouts on this thread so I thought I'd share a few from mine. MSTS rekindled my interest in trains that was, at first, just constrained to the computer. But after a few trips to the local train stores to find books and reference material I could resist no longer. Last July I began building, with my daughter Jessica the sceenery adviser and asistant, our frelance layout of the J&J Railroad. This is loosely based on the interior of BC near the Washington BC boarder in the 1950's thus both steam and 1st gen diesels are at home here. So I've put together a time line of photos from last summer to a few weeks ago.My steam roster includes2-6-2, 2-6-4, 2-8-0, 2-8-2, 2-8-4. wheel arrangements. For those who would like to know the track is Atlas code 55.Layout Shots – image 67

RE: Layout Shots

(While using a crowbar to remove jaw from oddly shaped hole in floor)Damn... Now I am really impressed. I currently own two model railroad layouts, both of which are based on my own fictious Thomasville Railroad Company, hence where I get the ideas and roster for my MSTS repaints. The HO Scale Thomasville Railroad Mount Thomas Subdivision is now well over sixteen years old, while my newest model railroad, the N Scale Thomasville Railroad Coal Fork Branch, is only a few years old, having been built for my senior class project. It was built on a 1/4" Luawn (hope I spelled this correctly) plywood base, while a layer of 1" Pinkboard insulaton was used for the main scenery base. All mountains are built out of the ame material and colored with water based artist's paints. The cental Divider is built out of a 8' length of Gatorboard, that was cut to the layouts length of 5'-0". I am in the process of building a web page for hosting my layouts.

RE: Layout Shots

The best in my oppinion are kato, atlas, athearn, and life-like is getting better. The worst are bachmann, con-cor, and any brass models (cause they are hardest to deal with). Atlas and Athearn have more detail. -Matt
