Heritage of the Southern Pacific – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Sep-21-03 AT 11:04 PM (EDT)

...>steps up to microphone<...>tap tap< Is this thing on? Ok folks, on behalf of MLT it brings me tremendous pride, being the SP fanatic that I am, to share with you a few screenshots of the forthcoming Southern Pacific Heritage Pack. To me it represents SP at its finest. This, like all of the others, was a very special project for me and everyone at MLT. But even moreso was that it was SP and to me that meant a unique inspiration to make the locos "feel" like SP. Jason and James have worked feverishly to put together a proper freight line-up to compliment the assortment of locos. The loco assortment is as follows... 2 SD40T-2's (1 gray 1 kodachrome)
2 SD45T-2's (1 gray 1 kodachrome)
2 GP35E's (1 gray 1 kodachrome)
2 SD40E's (1 gray 1 kodachrome)
2 GP40-2's (both gray but different builds)
2 B30-7's (both gray)
1 C-50-9 Baywindow CabooseThe freight assortment TBA. I, unfortunately, am not at liberty to announce an official release date... but just know that it will be very soon. So here goes... enjoy.

RE: Heritage of the Southern Pacific...

Momma don't take my kodachrome awaaaaaayyy ....Heritage of the Southern Pacific – image 33these look great danny, unfortunately i have never been fortuante enough to see any kodachrome, but i have seen alot of virgin SP back home when i railfanned in ft. worth this past july 28th, and shot more pics of the SP cause i liked them before the UP..... good thing the UP isn't in really much of any hurry ro repaint engines..... I have shot alomost as much virgin sp than santa fe to date now....i shoot more shots of virgin fallen flag units because they were my fav railroads before the bnsf and up killed them....even a gp40-2 WITHOUT speedlettering.....in the old gothic font....i shot the lead UP b23-7...but the SP gp40 5 or six times! gods i miss the SP and Rio grande......i was thrilled i shot a tunnel motor that day in ft. worth, but it had been tainted with a full coat of UP yellow......(i like the UP, but the fallen flags more)last time i ever saw a true SP train, June 16, 1996.... Two SP ac44's hauling a unit coal outside of pueblo, co....i honestly do not know why i remember that sp train, as at the time it didn't mean much other than it was an SP unit coal.....to my dismay.... that was the last true SP train i ever saw.....Heritage of the Southern Pacific – image 34Hauling America one pixel at a time

RE: Heritage of the Southern Pacific...

Best summer an Espee fan could have and still have numbers left on the cc. Got thing they got rid of the old embossing machines. Cal-P, 3DTS add-ons, and the Donner route. What if Donner connected with Cal-P which connected to Tehachapi which connected with Cajon! Thanks to all the SoPac fans and developers!Craig

RE: Heritage of the Southern Pacific...

Well Tehachapi and Cajon do connect, sorta, and it is conceiveable that Donner and CAL-P could connect as they both had trackage in Roseville, but I really don't see anyone making the entire boring San Joaquin Valley to connect the two areas. I'd really like to see some one connect Lancaster and Palmdale to Los Angeles via Soladad Canyon, and bring the rest of the UP and BNSF trackage into L.A. from San Bernadino, West Colton and Riverside.Duncan

Looks great! May I offer one suggestion? It seems as if weathered SF/Kodachrome units that I've seen loose the yellow paint that's covering the vents. This was especially true on C30-7s, and maybe on EMD units as well. Of course, you guys are on top of your game and probably have photos of these units to prove me wrong. . . Anyway, the locos look great- -just thought I'd throw this idea out to you. MSTS happily uninstalled since June, 2003

NICE danny..
You know I'm thinking about things other than what I should be when I'm trying to work a math word problem, of maximizing objective functions and I start off "Maximize SD40T-2 Subject to Koadachrome and grey"Off to finish this stupid math problem.I'd much rather be running this SP stuff than doing Business equations.

Now, settle down Tim, Danny didn't even set a release date!
But MLT isn't cheap, that's 12 locomotives and a caboose for (supposedly) $11.99 and perhaps a bandwidth charge...
That's a great deal!

I'm just curious, has there been any mention of price? $11.99 would be a nice price, but we probably shouldn't guess. I for one am a little curious, and would be suprised if it's indeed $11.99, but i guess only time will tell.Jim.

Great Locomotives! Also, I've seen some shots you posted before of SP SW1500's and GP40X's. Will these also be included?

LAST EDITED ON Sep-24-03 AT 00:15 AM (EDT)

Wow! What a response! Thanks everyone for your overwhelming enthusiasm. To answer your questions... no, no, yes, no, yes, yes, no, yes, maybe, we'll see, not sure...uh...heh heh, don't actually try to match any of those answers up. The sw1500 and gp40x will not be included sadly. The SW did originally make the line up but becasue there is a lack of solid reference for an SW cab interior for it to have it's own unique interior. As for the price and such, I cannot say at this time what the final price will be. Now about the warbonnet and the grill thing... on some locos, even mostly dirty, the warbonnet still showed up at certain angles... guess it just depends. But these models weren't as heavily weathered as they probably should have been so I left it. I didn't want anyone to think I just got lazy and left it out. The control stand...are you talking about the models themselves? As in from outside looking in? If so I will definitely look further into it. As for the speed lettering thing... yes it is SP still but it is a style that didn't last very long and, in my opinion and many others, is not the "SP we all know and love." Many could argue what "Heritage" really means but for me it meant from the early 70's into the late 80's. Speed Lettering marked the end of that era and only spiralled downward from there...>wipes tear from eye< DON'T even get me started on patch units...I know I am forgetting a few questions, or can't answer others - just yet. Anyway,I make sure that the cab interior carried over that rough SP look as well... Thanks again everyone! =|GoldenPig

RE: Heritage of the Southern Pacific...

I love the models. I was wondering (Danny) if you could include some modern Southern Pacific locomotives like some of the ones before the Union Pacific take over (ditch lights, speedlettering, etc.). That would be great and I would defintely buy them. Thanks.

Speaking of the MLT mugs, will real MLT mugs be made for us diehard MLT fans to drink MLT coffee (D'oh!) out of? 'Cause if you saw the five-page long thread at the MLT forums, you'll see many people wanted and probably still want the mugs to be made...
