Most of you out there probable thought I've dropped off the face of the earth! No just had some very bad setbacks. As some of you may know my Dad passed away last September 19th, the day after my 56th birthday. Now suddenly and unexpectenly my Mom passed awayed this pased June 14th. Took all my ambition, energy, and drive away. Was really hard to work on anything even MSTS or even be interested in anything.Well I'm back at it again. However am about to start rice so my weekends off is about to come to an end. Will be working 7 - 12 hour days untill finished with rice. Still thought those of you who may still be interested here is the lastest of my work on the Modern Tehachapi Pass Developers Edition. For what I have previously done do a search here at the screen shot forum for harby46.I wouldn't say much about the pictures, as I'll let them talk for themself. However I will say I am trying to have the beta version out to my testers by late March, barring any more setbacks or unseen events.Hope you like the pictures.
Happy and Safe Railroading to ya.

RE: Tehachapi Developers Version, 2003 Update

Jonatan:NO. It will not be payware! If I can get the permission, when finished I want to make it available for downloading here at Train-sim F/L. The Modern Tehachapi Pass Developers Edition belongs to 3D Trains and was payware. With the fact that it is no longer availabe and with the avident of Tehachapi II and the pending MSTS II, I am in hope that they will allow me to make what I have done available for downloading. I have redone all the track work and you can see the year and a half of work I've put into developing the scenery.I plan to send them a copy of what I have done when the beta version is ready so they can evaluate it and hopefully give me permission to make it avalilable for downloading. HOWEVER, if they say no, thay is their right and we must respect that. Please don't bug them about it, let whatever happens, happens in the time frame I am working in, and what will be will be. 3D Trains have been a good friend to us all suppling us all great trains, and routes; and continue to do so. I thank them for that and for the Modern Tehachapi Pass Developers Version. It will be a while yet before the beta version is ready, I want everything right so both 3D Trains and I will be proud of what I make available for downloading. All in good time.

Happy and Safe Railroading to ya.

RE: Tehachapi Developers Version, 2003 Update

Made a mistake in my reply to Jonatan. It was after 2am and my brain wasn't working as fast as my fingers on the keyboard, or maybe my brain wasn't working at all!!!Anyway the route "The Modern Tehachapi Pass Developers Edition" is not the payware of 3D Trains BUT of 3D Train Stuff. I realy wanted and needed to clear that up. Sorry about that, no excuse for it. Thought both are great outfits supplying us with great things for our MSTS enjoyment.

Happy and Safe Railroading to ya.

RE: Tehachapi Developers Version, 2003 Update

Tom,Outstanding work on the TPV – the detail is absolutely incredible! An obvious nice touch is with the animated scenery, but the city is outstanding as well (I love those street scenes). The depth in all your pics are quite rare for routes, and I would be curious as to the FPS you’re getting in various areas. Care to divulge? My condolences to you as well on your recent loss. Both your parents are no doubt in a better place.Cheers!

RE: Tehachapi Developers Version, 2003 Update

LAST EDITED ON Aug-31-03 AT 04:17 AM (EDT)

Marc:I am now reworking several areas of the route to improve the FPS while not hurting the scenery. Have learned a bunch of new trick.Origionally in the worse heavy populated tiles as you porgressed from one tile to the next or one sceen to the next with 4 GS-4's (2 front, 2 rear) 51 high poly billboard refers, and a caboose, I would drope to 1 FPS for a few frame as the next scene generated. I have now imporved most of those to 3 or 4 FPS. I am trying to keep, with the above consist, the FPS always 8 or higher, however at time it will drop to 6 and one and a while to 4 or 3! Most of the time over 80% of the route it is 10/12 FPS or higher. Just a side note: these SP GS-4 4-8-4's are the SP Daylight in freight colors I have availabe for downloading in the file library. The 4 GS-4's are more than enought to handle this heavy freight over the Tehacahapi's.Note: that these FPS are on a Tiger Systemax Pentium4 1.7GHz with 1024MB PC133 ECC SDRAM, 60GB & 120GB Hard Drives, 16x DVD, 16x CDRW. The video card is GeForce FX 5600 with 256MB DDR RAM. And I have a 21" KDS Xtream flat hige res .23mm DP 120MHz CAD Monitor. My operating system is MS Windows XP. This is with everyting running in the background (norton ect.) all the sliders in MSTS maxed out, and running at a resoulition of 1280 x 768 x 32.I hope this answers your question.

Happy and Safe Railroading to ya.

Tom - thanks for the info on the FPS. My own system is only slightly faster, and your notes gives me an idea on what to expect in the event the route's released.Cheers!

Losses, over a period of time, amazingly heal. They also somehow give us more strength.
Your renewed strength is clear, Tom.
Glad you have returned to 'build' a new msts foundation.

Tom,
It is amazing what you have done to a route that only had Joshua trees, track, some water towers and a few boxcars turned into shanties. Like every one else I will wait with baited breathe for the possible release.Regards,
