I was sittin’ here thinkin’ about out adventures, and thought-Hey, maybe I’ll post some more pics.Welp, I got some pics, but I seem to be lacking in a bit of memory. I’ll see what I can do.The first trip we made was to the “Southeastern Railway Museum”, in Duluth, Ga. (Robert-jump in here, anytime).Left to right:

Here’s the memory problem. I can’t remember his name.

Hey Guys, there is a Steam Run from Chattannoga to Summerville in October. I am planning to go one Saturday, perhaps we can make it the fall trip and save the trip to Smoky Moutain railway for next year. I need a train fix since I haven't had much time to do any building (virtual or Model)

OK, we have the following days avaialableSaturday Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25
Sunday Oct 19, 26.Tickets are $77 dollars each. Includes lunch in the dining car. This is an all day run. Leave Chattanooga at 9am and return at 5:40pmOr if we can get 12 folks to come at $100 each we can get our own Private car (We can pretend to be Rail Barons.)
It would be the last car on the train and we can stand out on the observation deck and wave to the folks.Let me know and once we have a date, we can post in the in the other forums.MSTS Atlanta Group nostalgia – image 10

I'd be interested in driving down from good ole Indiana and attending that run. Would be very cool to get our own private car too! If yall get more details and definite plans set shoot me an e-mail (dzollner@tds.net) and let me know about it. Chances are I'll be there. Maybe we could get lahdpop to car pool down there with me. OK, Lets set it for Saturday Oct 18th. I will post something in the other Forums once I return home on Sunday.I will also get phone number for the TVRR so we can call and reserve tickets. Was at a train show earlier and ran into someone from the TVRR and they told me that there is now a turntable in Summerville and it will be used. With the leaves turning there will be some great color on the route.MSTS Atlanta Group nostalgia – image 16

The way I understand it,there needs to be at least 12 people (or $1200.00) for the private car.
With 2 for you, that's 6 so far.

I will call the TVRR on Monday to confirm that the private car is still available. If I can be sure of serious committements and all, I will front the $1200 to cover the car and then you all can pay me back at the gathering. But first thing first, let me make sure the car is available.MSTS Atlanta Group nostalgia – image 18

Dan-I think we could come to little bit better arraignment than you paying the whole difference.
It looks like we have a good, possible, 8. That would only be 50 more bucks apiece.
I'm not speaking for everybody, but I'm sure something can be worked out. Besides, it's your Birthday. OOpps! Was I not supposed to say that?
I agree, the private coach would be fantabulous.HawkEdit 1: This is mostly for my benefit.
Here's the roster so far.
Dan, Bill, Pete (hopefully), Jim (2 tickets), Robert (depending on his wife's delivery schedule), Denny, and me.

RE: MSTS Atlanta Group nostalgia.

Quickie question: I'm not "obligating" myself but I may have two additional riders (Mona's kids), no guarantee, though. After we get 12 is it still $100 a pop or is it just a flat $1200 for the car and we can bring as many as we want?If that's the case, I would think with a little promotion we could host a regular train-sim bash and get the ride cost down to a very easily affordable level....(well, given some of the goings-on at times maybe "bash" ain't such a good word!) but you get my drift....JBD

According the the TVRR, the cost for the car is $1290 and that is for 12 people. Anything above that is an additional $80 each (I Will confirm that amount today.)Since I quoted $1200 (my bad) I will cover the extra 90 dollars if we do this. We have a whole Parlor car to ourselves. Also Lunch is included and we have a private porter if the information I was given is correct.Again I will be calling TVRR to get all the specifics.MSTS Atlanta Group nostalgia – image 24

I'm looking forward to meeting you as well. I've talked to many, many people over the phone that I've become aquainted with from this and other forums involving MSTS. Oddly enough, I haven't met one person face to face, including the guys at 3DTrains and FacingPoint. But, next month I'm heading out to California to meet Andrew and Marc and to get my chance to ride in the cab of the Surfliner that I've been hearing for several months. After that it's the Chattanooga trip which I'm thoroughly excited about having wanted to get there since I was a kid growing up. So, gonna be a great fall for me. If there is room I'd like to put my name in as well. My new bride (we were married the 27th of July) said that I could go if I took her with me. It would be a great pleasure to be able to meet some of the people that make train sim what it is today.

RE: MSTS Atlanta Group nostalgia.

I would think there's plenty of room. After all, we have a whole train to fill.
You and the new little lady are more than welcomed to join us. The more, the merrier. As to reservations, we all need to make them on our own. After everyone has made their reservations, I can contact the TVRR and request we all be in the same car. This excursion appears to be fairly popular, so it might be a good idea to make reservations early. As mentioned above, the private coach is booked up for the rest of the season. The lady I spoke with at TVRR suggested reserving the private coach early in the year, like in March. Apparently, by April, the coach is usually booked solid.Hawk"First thing I remember knowin', was that lonesome whistle blowin'-And a yungun's dream of growing up to ride-

Unfortunatly, it is assigned seating, so getting everyone together will help straighten out the curves. To make resevations, 423 894-8028
Enter ext. 12, or ask to speak to Betty Sanders. If she is not available, ask the person you're talking to, to bring your reservation to her attention. Also mention the Atlanta Train Simulator Group, and/or John Tackett and Ed Hawkins. The closer together, time wise, we can make reservations, the easier it will be for Betty to get us all in the same car.Oh! And BTW! Betty has the weekend off, but I'm rather confident the person you speak with will be willing to help.Your assitance in this matter will be greatly appreciated, in the long run. RE: MSTS Atlanta Group nostalgia.

Sorry, folks....I'm going to have to withdraw.... Since the trip has reverted to coach seating I don't feel as though it's worth taking a 3-day weekend at this point...More importantly, I have a seat on a VERY rare mileage AARPCO run in late September and that'll pretty much kill of my "discretionary funds" for a while. Thanks for making this event happen! I hope that I can participate in a future event.JBD

Welp! You're gonna' miss a good time, but there will be other adventures.
Hope you can join us on our next one.
Just out of curiosity, how would it be a 3 day weekend? It's only an 8 hour excursion. Hawk "First thing I remember knowin', was that lonesome whistle blowin'-And a yungun's dream of growing up to ride-

RE: MSTS Atlanta Group nostalgia.

TE-BUMP!Sorry for the intrusion folks.
We're trying to keep this on top so others can find it easier.
We still have a few that haven't made their reservations yet, and some of the info in this thread is necessary to get us all in the same car.
I know it’s not the right forum for this sort of thing, but it just sort of happened, and rather than start a new thread in another forum, we’ll just keep pestering ya’ll for a few more days. Hawk

RE: MSTS Atlanta Group nostalgia.

I just got off the phone with Betty at TVRR. According to her records, so far, there is only Bill, John, Chuck (a new member) and myself set up to ride in car 5.
If you have purchased your ticket and neglected to mention "The Tackett Group" (as we're known to her), you will need to contact her for further assitance if you plan to join us in car 5.
The phone number is: 423 894-8028 ext. 12. Her name is Betty Sanders.
The sooner you make your reservations with Betty, the easier it will be for her to set us all up in the same car. Thanks,
