Creating Teams – image 2

Would you guys be interested in creating teams of players? In the next version, you will have the ability to designate the intended recipient of a posted train. We could set up designated exchange points etc... I think this will be fun.Possible team names:
1) Union Pacific
2) BNSF
2) Norfolk Southern
3) CSXAll we need are 4 players to get started! As more players join, we could name the teams according to subdivision, etc...Jim

RE: Creating Teams.

Well, I first didn't like this idea but then I thought about it some more.Could this include taking certain jobs?I mostly enjoy working in Barstow just classfying cars, most of the time I don't really like running road trains or switching cars out on locals. Would one be assigned a job such as I would be the Barstow yardmaster while others could run freights which they might like more than classifying cars?Something to think about.Chris Lee

This is how I see teams working:Each member will have the right to be on an existing team of his choice. I can make a webpage that would breakdown who's on what team. Also on this page I can post your playing preference. Members can suggest a new team (like amybe an obscure shortline), which I can then create for anyone to join. For example,Team BNSF:
Chris Lee: I enjoy classifying cars at Barstow yard. I don't deliver cars or run mainline trains.
Jim Wisman: I mainly enjoy delivering cars in the Southern California area only.
Joe Blow: I handle delivery for Team BNSF in the Northwest. Team CSX
Bill Clinton: I like making unblocked cross country manifests for California.
John Starr: I just like running mainline trains. I like going from map to map all day long. I will take any train to it's destination based on it's train symbol.
Then, when you post a train you could specify it's intended recipient. Examples of exchanging trains, based on the above players:From: BillClinton To:JohnStarr (Unsorted manifest going to Barstow)
From: John Starr To:BNSF (JohnStarr drops off a train at Barstow, Chris Lee classifies it.)
From: ChrisLee To:KingJPW (preblocked cars for So. Cal)
From: ChrisLee To:JoeBlow (unit train going to Seattle)From: KingJPW To:Anyone (KingJPW posts a new train for anyone on any team)So the the intended recipient could be a 1) a particular person (on your team or otherwise) b) anyone on a specific team (your team or another team) c) anyone at all. You are always in control because YOU specify the recipient of your train. (It would be a matter of good citizenship to only download trains for which you would be condsidered an intended recipient.)To a certain extent it will be up to the team members to organize themeselves for the purpose of delivering freight. Players in a team may decide for themselves how to work together and volunteer to take on certain responsibilities. You can setup among yourselves exchange points, etc...However, no one player can claim to be 'the' Barstow yardmaster (i.e. 'the boss') much less the BNSF leader & CEO. It's more appropriate to think of yourself as a 'member of a yard crew' at Barstow. Undoubtedly, there may be some people in your team who you don't like, but how many of us work with people we don't like in the real world? Anyway, I think this concept will open up many gameplay possiblities and make everything more interactive.Jim

RE: Creating Teams.

Man, Joe Blow is a real winner. I'm glad we used our #1 draft pick on him I think the idea does have some merit, and probably should be looked into further. I was actually wondering lately why your trains had Anyone attached onto them on the server Jim, guess that answers that. Maybe some monatary value could be assessed when a train passes from one team to another. However I also like the idea of just taking down random trains and dealing with the challanges that come with them. I think that's what also makes the game fun.Chris Lee

I like the idea, especially the designated interchange points. Like Dave Honan said, it makes it more realistic.I'd like to be on the NS team.Paul Metzger

RE: Creating Teams.

You know, the next logical step from this type of team operation is to have an actual 'operating' session one weekend. We could each take an assignment, building our local trains and getting them blocked, someone uploading the first section ... the next person will take it and add their local cars, remove the cars for their destination, send it on ... etc. etc. Basically, this is what YD is doing already, only there isn't anyone that is really responsible for a certain area and everything is taking place in an unscheduled manner. I guess the difference is just having everyone online at one time or at least within a few hours of each other and each taking on a more dedicated role.It would be nice to have regularly scheduled trains that start and end at certain places also... like a Maine to S. California manifest ... and the Krannert to Wyoming coal trains. Eventually a Chicago to Seattle grain train ... etc etc. Perhaps each of us could come up with a train to get started - with a schedule of stops, setouts, pickups and a final destination. If there were say 5 of us, that would be 5 trains travelling throughout the map with different destinations ... enough to keep us busy for an afternoon. Anyone game for trying something this weekend?
