YD testers-Discovered this unique and extraordinarily interesting game today while looking for info on my other favorite sim, TD3. If nobody has plans to, I'd be interested in doing maps for Terre Haute, IN (junction) and Selkirk Yard, NY. Methinks that a junction in Indiana, the self-labeled "Crossroads of America," would be quite useful for both east-west and north-south routes!-Dave

RE: Greetings from a newbie!

Hi Dave,Good to have you aboard, its nice to see another New Yorker as well! Make sure you check out the posts from other Newbies, as well as reading Jim's MSN site. You will learn a trememendous ammount
about the operation of YD. Any other questions can be posted in this fourm, or on the email list. This fourm is better though...I also checked out your site, real nice work. I loved your shots from around Bethlehem as that's where I shoot a lot. My site is www.eastwestrails.com .BTW Jim, "YD" is catching on!Chris Lee

RE: Greetings from a newbie!

I went through nearly every post here (and am working my way thoroughly through the msn site) -- how else do you think I picked up on "YD"? Thanks for the compliments on the photos -- check back later tonight or tomorrow, the webmaster said he'd post my latest update at some point this evening. I'll take a look at your site, uh, eventually... I have other things to conquer at the moment. Glad I finished my TD3 CSXT SB DS sim before finding this!-Dave

Yeah, "YD" is a nice little abbreviation. Hey, it's a good thing that 'yard' doesn't start with a 'V' or we would be playing with "VD" haha Yuck! Anyway my new question is: What do you call someone who plays YD? Are we:'Yarders' ?
'Dutiers' ???
'YDers'" ?
'Freaks' I just don't know... Jim

Dave,Welcome!Yes, Terre Haute and Selkirk would be welcome additions. I have already sent in a map for Berea, OH that they both could connect with, and am going to start working on Springfield, MA that Selkirk could connect with. Make sure you read the insructions on the website about mapmaking and mapelements, as well as the recent posts on changes to the map posting procedures. Good Luck, and I'll be looking forward to those 2 areas, and hopefully others as well.Paul Metzger

RE: Greetings from a newbie!

Paul-Good to know that I'd be doing something useful to start out with! Can finally put my CR ZTS and wall maps of SK to use.Terre Haute is pretty interesting... Three main lines, two branches, four diamonds, a former diamond turned into a crossover (see <http://www.haleytower.org/>), and three small yards. This doesn't include the old E&I, now an I.T. and a grain company spur. See <http://home.att.net/~littletun/map.htm> for a schematic of everything.-Dave

RE: Greetings from a newbie!

Paul, I have ZTS books for the Southern Tier, Mohawk-Hudson, and New England (I think) volumes of the CR Albany Division. Drop me an email (David.Honan@Rose-Hulman.edu) and let me know what you're looking for in IN... I might be able to help you out a little.
Also, I've just uploaded my first train. Following a suggestion from someone (Paul?) in an "old" thread, I started in Bucksport, ME. Took a five-car train to Bangor, dropped it off for a mainline engine to take to NMJ -- experience creating trains! There, dropped off a load (easy way, darn) and sent the rest to Ayer. This is great!!Pop quiz: Who, outside of the northeasterners here, knows that "Ayer" is pronounced as an elongated "air"? The silly things you pick up when interning with a railroad...Ya know, even though it's pretty boring with regards to YD's purpose, I'd do Schaghticoke Hill on Guilford (across the Hudson River from Mechanicville, NY) just to drive people nuts trying to pronounce it!Much to my dismay, 'tis time for bed... grumble 05:30 alarm grumble survey in Watertown grumble...-Dave
