The Big PlaygroundYard Duty is like this awesome playground there is all these cool things to play with there is virtually unlimited space, the universe is yours. Your mom drops you off, you run to the gate and pay to get in. As you walk in, you see 50 kids, they are running around and look like they are having a good time. You decide, hey, I better check this place out, so off you go to the swings. You bump into someone there and they say "hey this place is great, hope your having fun!" "I am" you say! As you run to check out the jungle gym. This same thing keeps happening, every place you check out, looks great, and everyone is asking if your having fun! After a while you realize this could be a good place to play a game with all these nice people. So you decide to play Hide-n-seek. But as you run around looking for people to play they say "no thanks, I'm playing tag!" You keep getting the same reply "No thanks I'm playing tag, but I hope you have fun with your Hide-n-seek!" Having no luck recruiting players you think, hey if I start playing they will see how much fun it is and all join me. At first you find a good hiding place…but nobody will look for you. Hopes are dashed…..you take the offensive. You start running around to people, grabbing them and saying "Found You!". Now at first the kids just look at you strange, then scream and run away. After a bit and your third grab of the same kid he turns and say's "I thought you knew I was playing tag" and you respond "yes, but Hide-n-seek is much more fun!" He say's "almost everyone here is playing tag, why don't you join us?" "No thanks," you answer "I'll find some kids to play Hide-n-seek." Off you run to grab another kid…"Found you!" Only this time the kid stops and say's "please don't grab me anymore…your going to get me tagged!" Now your mad and feeling very left out. This park sucks you say! These people are not friendly! And some of them are just plain mean! Can you believe that kid asked me not to grab him anymore! How rude is that! I'm going to stay away from that guy all together, I hate him! At this point your mom pulls up to see how things are going. You have loads to tell her about how mean these kids are and how none of them will play with you. Mom wants to know if you asked them to play? "Yes", you say "I asked 20 kids to play Hide-n-seek but they all wanted me to play in their game of tag!" Well your mom say's, "they can't be all bad if they keep asking you to play tag!" Maybe if you would play tag you would enjoy it or after a while they might get tired of tag and want to play hide-n-seek. Son, she say's, "it looks like you have to make a decision." You can join the game of tag and play with the big group of kids. Or you can continue to play on all the toys by yourself. None of the kids owns the toys, they are here, for all to enjoy. No one has any more rights to the swings than you! Another choice you could make is the one I would not like to see. You can quit and go home. What would you choose?Does this mean Tag is a bad game? no
Does it mean that Hide-n-seek is a bad game? no
Does it say that groups of kids are mean? no
If he chooses to play alone is he a bad kid? no
If he plays with the group will all be perfect? no
My son is this kid and I was just like this kid (maybe I still am this kid) at some point you just have to make up your mind to enjoy yourself. With the group maybe, with yourself maybe. If the flaming is not too bad from this story, it will continue with what happens when he finds out that the "tag" players can't decide what rules the game should have….lol
From your uncle, Tim
