Well guys I just wanted to put my 2 cents in on map approval for YD. The last time I checked I think this is supposed to be a game that allows us as players to expand it, which is in itself a pretty cool venue. The problem that I have is that the process for map approval is quite painful. I know that the people that we have purusing the maps face a, currently thankless job, but come on guys perfection is never even reached in the real Railroad world. Speaking of which, I do not agree with creating "pretty" maps instead of realistic maps. I think that the track should follow the image instead of a straight and stringent course for asthetics. Last time I checked the tracks in LA they were not always evenly spaced nor were all the switches of the same length. I know that we all put a lot of time into producing maps and that some are more proficient than others at laying the lines on the screen but in the end our aim should be to add maps to the program that are needed. And making sure that these maps make it into our network as quickly as possible. If anything the map proposal section of our game should be more critical in certifying truly needed maps rather than space fillers. I know that the argument has been that we dont want to lose the integrity of the maps being posted. Well guys I dont know about you all but I was able to play the game with the bad quality maps that Jim had originally and still have fun. Im not saying that we need to approve maps in poor condition but some of the corrections that I have had maps held up on are truly miniscule and have no true role in the operation of the map. I dont mean to be harsh or extremely critical of our process but I have become frustrated when I see perfectly functional maps on hold that I as a player would love to have access to. I think that operations should out weigh excellance in track every time. We have many maps that are needed in our system and each of them have a priority especially to the map maker. If there are corrections that are needed in the map but the map itself is workable then why cant we post the map and in time make the needed adjustments to it for future revisions? That might require more work on the posting staff, sorry I'm not sure how that all works, but it would definitly appease me as an operator. Hell I have revisions that have never been posted since i started well over a year ago (thank goodness they are not on the Transcon ) Well, I hope that I have not ruffled to many feathers. I do appretiate all that everyone does for this game. I, just as everyone else, do become frustrated at times and the maps are the main reason for this in my case. Dont yell back to loudly guys Anthony

RE: Maps

Anthony,What a load of crap! I can't believe you would write all that nonsense! Geez, get a clue!
Seriously, Anthony, I agree with you 100%. I go to the local CSX and NS mainlines and look down the track...talk about loose tolerances! I will have a VERY difficult time getting my model railroad track that wavy so it will be prototypical! In addtion to your thoughts, I have a gripe that you didn't mention. Currently, there is ONE player who approves proposals and maps. I feel that in a community such as ours, there ought to be a map committee of three or more experienced map makers, from various regions of interest, that as a group will decide what is acceptable, what will be a useful addition to the yard duty system, and what maps should be worked on to enhance the game for everyone. There, that's my 1/50 of a dollar!
