A Crazy Question – image 1

Maybe I'm nuts, but how many of you guys with Yard Duty think it is more enjoyable to play than MSTS?

RE: A Crazy Question:

Me for one. This type of prototypical operation and freight forwarding is a lot of what I wanted out of MSTS. But we all know what it is like to have a few cars in a yard and and pulling a long train ... frame rates are terrible. I just finished Inman Yard in Atlanta for my Chattanooga/Atlanta MSTS route. The track alone with no cars kills my frame rates! I am enjoying building maps for YardDuty much more than working with that @%#$@ing Route Editor in MSTS!Should have a lot of maps of the Southeast coming to you soon! Alan

RE: A Crazy Question:

Jim, Actually, I had not intended that version I posted up on my site to be final version. I just thought some of the other members might like to see what I had done. I don't think I have made many changes since I uploaded that last version - perhaps none at all. What changes to track did you have to make just out of curiosity? I am finshing up Citico Jct in Chattanooga right now which will allow the Rome map to fit into the rest of the network. I will email it to you in a bit. Alan

RE: A Crazy Question:

I've been dealing with train programs since 1985, (dam I'm old) I remember when the internet was in DOS format.... But anyway, I think this is the best I've 'EVER' seen. Look what you can do. Look at the maps, You don't need 3D train simulation to do RR. You have to know how the RR system works to enjoy this. I rather cut up cars all day in a 2D then ride in a 3D train simulation in a place that doesn't exist. Andrew

RE: A Crazy Question:

Yes, and No.Yes, When it comes to a more realistic running, YD has MSTS beat. As more people get involved, more trains, more yards, you'll never know what is going to be in the train that pulls into the yard. And that is what makes YD interesting. No, if your into model building, the search for the perfect engine, consist, et al, is what MSTS is about, IMHO. As closet HO collector, MSTS is wonderful, I finally have a place to run all the equipment that I have collect over the years.Don't get me wrong, even the two other programs that deal with interlocking signals (names escape me right now) have their place on my machine. What mood I'm in decides what program runs , sorry even train loss out to maintaining web pages (think I'd have enough of that at work).Thank you for your time,
Happy HolidaysBill
