Who is adding email address's to the locomotive created by other? Why is this being done? What purpose does it serve? And please stop doing it to the locomotives I have created. Everyone of us take the time and effort to create locomotives, we put thought and time into them, I would think at least you should ask if we mind having our creations changed. Just my thought!Marc
Marc, I've noticed some different engine creators, like 'NS Roanoke'...I have no idea where they came from, but I haven't seen any e-mail addresses on engines. I didn't know you could do that! Why is this a bad thing? Are you getting e-mails every time an engine enters a new map? I'm just confused as to why having an e-mail address tagged to an engine is changing it. Corey
What Marc is referring to is a comment added to the email column of the engine's .trn file, showing the home service terminal. I'm not sure who all is doing this, but I know that roba is doing it for the CP engine fleet. It doesn't change anything else; it is only intended to give an idea of where that engine is to be returned to for servicing, making yd a little bit more like the real thing. It serves no purpose, robas ideal is for that home terminal in the addy so they can be returned for service which you would have to go into notepad and look at a specific line and see what # is there. I along with others am not partaking in this. Just a waste of time as I don't have it to go and check every trains power via notepad to see if it needs to be returned. That still doesn't give anyone the right to mess with someone elses creations as Marc stated. If they do have the right I will gladly exercise my right and turn every engine pink HAHA! I like how my power showed the 3 letter Homeyard when you highlighted the specific engine on the map which shows Company,Model, and # along with what homeyard I chose for my power. There is my 2 cents also.
IMHO, the question isn't really if it serves a purpose or not, it's a question of respect for other people. If you don't want your locos modified, and make that fact known, that's your choice, and others should respect that choice. I personally don't think people should modify anyone else's power without permission at all. I have added comments to my locos in the email field, but have not touched anyone else's power.Atomic Chris
Well gents, I must confess to changing the email addresses on all ATSF and BNSF units that came through Barstow under the arrangement that given operators had with me in the painting of the units to the agreed on color schemes. I like the idea of having home yards present in the train window. It gives a touch more of realism when we view the units especially since operators have a tendancy to move about the country. As for changing these items I will no longer do that or touch anyones units in the future. If I have upset anyone by changing the paint scheme or adding a home yard I appologize. I did this with the intention of making at least the BNSF fleet a little more realistic and only to those unit created by operators that had agreed to it. tigeracl
