It is always a good idea to name your train and give it some instruction, especially before posting it back to the server. If you can't think of a good name, just call it something imaginary like the "Watson Local", or "KingJPW Express". Anything is better than nothing. The instructions can be very simple too, such as "Unsorted cars", or "Manifest heading north"Thanks,
Jim

Hey, that's a good idea. Maybe the two letter symbols are something that I should integrate into the game. Thanks for the idea. Looks like your having fun playing YD, Chris. Thanks,
JimPS: I'll be releasing a new version in a day or two with many little fixes here and there...

I also like the CR way of naming trains (might have something to do with where I live). UP and BNSF use similar codes, though BNSF uses 3 letter city codes instead of 2 letter ones. The only difference is they use NO for Norwalk. Both railroads also prefix it with a train type code. Here's some of the codes, in order of train priority:
A-UP Automobile (autorack) train
Z-HOT Intermodal train (usually UPS)
Q-Priority Intermodal train
P-Intermodal train
S-Doublestack train
V-BNSF Automobile (autorack) train
H-Expedited Manifest train (mixed freight)
M-Manifest train
C-Coal train
G-Grain train
U-other unit train
E-empty coal train
X-empty grain train
D-light engines
L-Local freight (usually point to point)
R-Roadswitcher (out and back)So, Q-FRSCHI would be a BNSF Priority intermodal from Fresno to Chicago,
and M-EUWC would be a UP manifest from Eugene to West Colton.I am using these codes, so you might have already seen some of them.Paul Metzger

I should also point out that any player can change the name and instructions for a train. Just edit the text and push the little save button. For example, if you are left with a bunch of 'light' power after making a delivery, you can hook up the engines to some other cars, give the train a new name, and send to on it's way.

Another use for the 'instructions' text box is for adding reminder notes. For example, I brought a train in to Butte street but didn't feel like sorting it at the moment, so I made a note to the effect "Unsorted local area cars for blocking here at Butte St". This note will later remind me what I was doing with the train when I have time to work on it.

RE: Naming Trains.

How are we going to do this, I saw you started naming some of the newer maps with 3 letter codes. Shall we use those Jim?Chris Lee

Well, I'm currently worrking on a simple dialog that will let you pick the type of train, it's origen and destination and then it will construct the train name for you. This way you don't really have to remember what to type... in the next version. Jim
