I still can't get 1.7.0 to work right. I can download it but the copy/paste thing won't work. All I get when the new version pops up is the membership box where you need to put in the key code again. I have tried just about everything. At this point I think I need to just uninstall YD and start over again. I really don't care at this point if I lose some cars or locos. Please advise. I have moved to Gallup NM for awhile some my email address is Jehooo@hotmail.com. If you can help me jim or anyone else let me know. If I start over can I have my same log in name SD452XR?

Steve,Others have had this problem and it really comes down to basic computer skills. The download page says this:"If you have already installed Yard Duty on your system, download the Latest Executable of Yard Duty here (300 KB) and simply overwrite your current executable. This doesn't affect your membership status."Here are the detailed instructions.1) Download the zip file containing the latestest executable to your hard drive. The zip file is named YardDutyLatestExecutable.zip2) Open this zip and you will find that it contains three files, one of which is called YardDuty.exe.3) Extract this file into C:\Program Files\Yard Duty. You should be prompted to overwrite the existing file. Answer 'Yes' to this question.4) Now run YD as before. You should see a splah screen with the new version number. You should see all your trains on the hard drive, as before. You should be able to enter maps you have already downloaded. Your membership status will be completely unaffected. If this does not happen, you did something very wrong!Let me know if this helps.
Jim

RE: still having problems

I did exactly as you said above. Same thing happens. Nothing. I have at least 3 yard duty icons. Version 1.5.0,1.6.0and 1.7.0. When version 6 or 7 come up the membership screen comes up. When 5 comes up nothing works becoause it says server timed out. Now maybe I have no computer skills, but it should be easier than this. Why can't you have YD update to new version automatically? I have realplayer and other programs. When a new version comes out they simply ask if you want to update to new version. None of the hastle that YD does. Great for us with NO computer skills. Remember there are a lot of us out here with NO compter skills. Now I am sure I screwed something up. What do I need to do now? I do a file search on YD and I get all these YD icons and YD files, what looks like duplicates. At this point I don't care if I lose a bunch cars and locomotives on my old maps. I just want YD to work again, unless this game is not for those of us that have no computer skills.

RE: still having problems

do you have the .exe files of all three versions? if so, where are they located?
You said you moved to Gallup, did you take the computer that you used before with you or did you install on a new computer?

RE: still having problems

I have the same computer. The way I locate all the YD files is thru the search files feature. I think the only way I am going to solve this problem is to start all over and uninstall and re install YD. I getting a little tired of all this. I am about to just say screw it all and give me my damn money back.

Steve,When all else fails, you can delete everything and start over. I can make you a new key. That is not the problem. My concern is that you will still need to be able to upgrade to new versions as they come out in the future. I want to know that you will be able to do this in the future. If you have three icons of YD you definetly are not uderstanding how to upgrade, because upgrading involves OVERWRITING the old YardDuty.exe with the new version of YardDuty.exe. It just that simple. Please don't give up. We want and need you out there helping us play the game!Keep the faith,
Jim
