Yes, it's me posting again! I was wondering what the views are on new maps, what maps are most wanted right now? Is there a policy in the building of the system?I am looking for a new map to design. I am relatively new, so i am looking for a medium size map, definitely not a big yard.I am thinking of a intermodal facility or a small yard or junction. If you have any suggestions let me know, maps or pictures would be helpfull. How about a new section in Dave Honan's list: ideas for yards and their priorities, so that people wanting to create a yard but are not specific in area or railroad can choose one and we can share the available information. This way an area can be filled with yards if several people contribute.
Jim once had a list that denoted priorities, which I always thought was a rather silly idea because it directly inferred that some maps would be treated less equably than others.I am very willing to create a list of suggested projects. With Paul's help, I hope to soon add a list of simple projects for first-time designers, and it would be relatively easy to expand this to a list of projects that people can choose from. For those what would like to contribute to this project, please send me an email containing the information stated in Step 1 of the Process and with a subject header of "Suggested yard project: Yardname".Thanks!-Dave Conrail Albany Division ...striving for "Continuous Quality Improvement" http://gcdranet.homelinux.com/davehonan/Yard Duty Superintendent of Maps http://members.trainorders.com/dwhonan/yd/
Dave,Sounds like you believe that 'all maps are created equal'. I'm sure with all the maps that have passed through your hands so far that you understand that this is not the case. Actually, my scale of one to ten rating was based on my subjective opinion of a map as to how valable of an addition it would be to the game (and thus the speed at which it would get posted) So, for example when a map with a rating of 2 is submitted, I would not have to get emails from the designer saying 'when is my map going to be posted.' The obvious answer is that the maps is quite bad and I'd rather spend time on the good stuff first. So you see, the rating was not silly, but actually quite a good communication tool. Anyway, that was my system but you are free to work as you please. If you can process maps faster than they are created then all is well, but I couldn't. Maybe that's why I hired such as fine SUP!Jim

First of all, i list of simple projects is a great idea! On the equality of maps: say someone wants to add a couple of industries somewhere, say near the gulf of mexico where there is no classification yard available. You might say that a yard would be a good startingpoint before the industries are added. Of course the person creating the maps should have the capacities to create a larger yard.
