YDers,Newbie "brianz" continues to indiscriminately download trains that have been posted to the server for other players. Within the last 10 minutes he's grabbed trains for JWR, AlphaMaster, and Davecr0. To prevent further abuse of the server and loss of trains among the members, I proceeded to download every other train on the server, and will be distributing them by email to the appropriate recipients. Simply save the .trn file to your Yard Duty/Server1/Trains directory, and it'll show up in your "Trains On Hard Drive" list.I apologize for taking such pre-emptive action, but I am truly pissed off that certain players are so insensitive as to ignore repeated pleas from members to not download trains that have not been posted for that player. The selfish actions of one can truly ruin things for many.Jim, perhaps this will be a wakeup call that something needs to be changed NOW about how newbies are allowed to access the server.-Dave Conrail Albany Division ...striving for "Continuous Quality Improvement" http://gcdranet.homelinux.com/davehonan/Yard Duty Superintendent of Maps http://members.trainorders.com/dwhonan/yd/
I see this as a big concern. I think something needs to be done to protect the people who actually play the game to it's full extent. I would be mad if I spend hours switching cars and sent them and someone downloaded it just cause it was a long train. When I first started this game I wanted to download every train "just because" but now that I see the true meaning behind YD it even better. Could it be that newbies don't see there name in the train list? I think there should be more control in when upload and download car files. Like Dave H. said, we would have to e-mail them, but that would take the fun out of the game.-Andrew Maine Central Division
Andrew,The situation has been resolved with the release of 1.3.0. A separate "Members Area" has been created on the FTP server, and only members can access it. Players using the trial version only have access to the "general" directory on the server (i.e., where MyFirstTrain is located).-Dave Conrail Albany Division ...striving for "Continuous Quality Improvement" http://gcdranet.homelinux.com/davehonan/Yard Duty Superintendent of Maps http://members.trainorders.com/dwhonan/yd/
yesterday i brought iup an idea with during a chat with kingjpw: why not make a whole bunch of template trains, and each day a certain number of those are randomly put in the non-member area, for anyone to download. Before i got to work Corwith yard, the game seemed boring since i only got to run my own trains, which is not really the whole point of the game although it may be satisfying for some. What i am trying to say is that the game should be made more enjoyable for non-members. I know some people already post to teams or ´anyone´ instead of to a certain person. Please do this more often.BTW does Brianz do something with the trains i.e. deliver freight, or does he just kill and eat the trains?
