Hi guys, I offered to make a map of the spur at the Boeing plant in Everett Wa. DaveH told me that only paying members are allowed to submit maps. I have -of course- a different opinion, although i plan to join after my 30 trial period. In my view it´s a good thing to have more maps, since it can accomodate more people and it gives more diversity. You have to take into account that the number of people will mushroom (sort of) as more people are joining and telling friends. More maps will also appeal to people, since it´s more likely that there is a yard or junction in YD that they know or live nearby. Last of all, people submitting maps who don´t become a member still leave a ´postcard´ behind, which is also nice.I hope i concinced you all, but of course especially Jim and the directors. (I still had fun creating the map anyways)
One reason (not necessarily the only reason) that non-members are not allowed to make maps is to give them some time to play the game and get used to all of it's intracacies before attempting to create a yard. I think it is better to concentrate at the beginning on learning the ins and outs of moving trains through various yards. This gives you the chance to see what others have already done, and garner ideas for the projects you would like to do once you are a member.Another reason is to ensure the high quality of maps without overloading the Sup of Maps with answering basic questions that are learned through running trains.Paul Metzger Track Foreman/Trainmaster CP Rail System (D&H) "Courtesy keeps customers"
