Group,Jim has entrusted me to become Superintendent of Maps, which means that I will be in charge of the entire map-making process, from concept through submission to Jim for inclusion into the YD network. The goal of this change is to streamline the process for submitting and creating maps, and to relieve some of Jim's workload.Effective immediately, new procedures are in effect for submitting maps. These procedures were designed to ensure:
- new maps for the network will be valuable
- minimum effort is expended on improproper design practices
- new designers quickly learn how to properly create maps
- all new maps enter the system at a consistently high level of quality
Additionally, a revised listing of current map projects has been created; this will be updated much more frequently than Jim had been able to accomplish. Both the list and new procedures can be found at:
http://members.trainorders.com/dwhonan/yd/projects.htmlPlease feel free to make any comments or suggestions that you think will improve upon this process.
NOTE TO ALL DESIGNERSTo those who have maps in-progress, please email me with a status report on the maps that are listed on the Projects page so that I can ensure an up-to-date Projects page. Any maps for which a status report is not sent before May 27 will be removed from the Projects page. However, I will maintain a separate list of these incomplete maps for other designers (especially new ones) to choose from... Jim & I would hate to see the effort already expended go to waste. Also, it appears that some maps which had been submitted to Jim, but never got polished, were not transmitted to me. I only possess the maps that are shown on the Projects page; please resubmit to me anything that is missing.
One last item: My vacation plans, which had been up in the air, were finalized today. I will not be able to play YD, or handle Superintendent duties, for most of the month of June. I ask that any map work you wish to have me do before my hiatus be submitted no later than May 27. I apologize for this inconvenience; however, with the relative lack of recent map-making activity, I hope that the lull won't have too great an effect.I look forward to working with you designers to generate some great new maps!-Dave
