I hate to complain, but the recent change in the inertia given to cars in a hump yard is wreaking havoc with my hump operations. Pleease change it back to the original specs, they worked fine! Now, these cars go straight through the bowl and while I'm throwing switches on the west end I'm not sure if there are cars in the track already because if there are any they are all the way on the other side of the bowl and off the screen. I had this one poor car for Pittston roll straight through the Pittston track, all the way down the ladder, and it would have kept right on going if the very last turnout wasn't thrown against it. I would have been busily humping a train and suddenly be prompted with a message that a train is leaving the yard with 1 car and 0 engines...uh oh!! THe original set-up was much better in that the cars stopped towards the middle of the bowl, with plenty of room to throw more cars in there...I mean, if you run out of space in that one track, just send cars into another track. LHF,I will be adding retarders to the end of hump bowls to stop cars from exiting the bowl in the near future. I agree that cars didn't roll far enough in the previous versions. I have always been in the habit of stopping the first car of a particular track when humping to prevent what you describe. You will have to do the same until the retarders are added. Thanks, Jim
Well, I just finished coding this and, I must say, it has turned out quite nice. This new 'retarder' track property is useful for stopping rolling cars either at the end of a hump yard or at the end of a stub track. There is no visual indication that a track is a retarder, except in design mode, in which case the ballast appears white. Look for it in the next release.Jim
How exactly will it function? Does the car stop at the end of the track section, at the beginning, in the middle...? I'm curious because it'll affect how I implement it at Selkirk... and I don't want to have to rip apart the East End to put 'em in. (Some long sections of track end right at the ladder turnouts.)-Dave MP 2.6, PRR Lost Creek Branch http://www.davehonan.gcdranet.com/
Good question Dave and you are correct. You should put a short section of track (1-2 car lengths) between the ladder turnout and the long sections. This piece will be assigned the 'retarder' property.Jim
