Yard Duty - 1.1.12 Released – image 1

Features:
1) Added ability to send trains which maintain their postion in a map to other users. In other words, when you remove a train from a map using the first option (remove to hard drive), the file is written with the postions stored in the file. Note that the file extension is .tr1 instead of the usual .trn.If you try to load a train from someone else on some tracks that are already occupied with cars (there is really no way to know in advance if this will happen), YD will prevent the train from being loaded and highlight the trackage that needs to be cleared before the train can be loaded. This is kind of cool. One limitation of this feauture is that the switches on your map may not be in the same postition as the original map. Therefore, it is adviseable and courteous to remove a train only when it is not sitting over and switches, for example on a long siding or mainline.Note that this feature will allow for the accurate interchange of freight between Teams on designated interchange tracks. For example, pull a train onto interchange tracks, cut off the engines, and then remove the train to the hard drive and post it to the server. The next player will have to dispatch his power to handle the train...
Improvements:
2) Removed financial penalty for removing trains from map. This was silly.
3) Time warp screen only comes up when traveling more than 10 miles.Fixes:
4) Made the transition from map to map more attractive.Enjoy,
Jim

New Use for this option

I'm thinking about a conceviable use for this option just as I'm preparing to send out a one stop away local.Would this allow you to position train X on departure track5 lets say in yard Z, then upload the location to the server and someone else would download it and 'climb aboard' the train at the yard and then take it out on the mainline. I'm seeing this as something that would allow someone to become a virtual crew, climb aboard a train in a yard on the departure tracks, ride it over to another yard and leave it for a person to classify on the arrival tracks.Idea worth merit?Chris Lee

I just tried removing a train to my hard drive, and then "riding" it back in. It appeared back in the same place, but it was moving. I thought that it would reappear stopped. This could create problems. Or does it behave differently when someone else downloads it?Otherwise, very nice feature.Paul

I think what Paul was trying to say that he stopped a train, removed it to the hard drive, and when he rode it back on, it was magically moving again. This also occurred to me, much to my surprise. (I've become quite proficient at hitting the 'a' key in a panic!) -Dave

I see. Well, the solution is to stop them before removing. BTW, has anyone yet seen the yellow highlight line that appears when you load a train on top of another? If not try this: a) remove a train from a certain location. b) Drive another train on to the same track c) Try to re-load the original train. Cool, eh?Jim

Jim,What Dave and I are saying is that the trains were already stopped, standing still, not moving, before we uploaded them. When they came back in, they were moving. Is this a glitch?I "observed" the yellow line. I removed a single car from one end of a yard track, and I got the "message" when I tried to bring it back. There were cars on the other end of the same track. I didn't realize that the entire track has to be clear in order to bring a train back in. Oops! I'll have to move the other cars, and then bring my stray car home. All in all, a nice feature.Paul

That would be odd if it were moving when it was loaded, but not when it was removed. I'll test this out. Also realize that the loaded train becomes the selected train when it is loaded, so maybe you gave it some throttle before realizing where it was located? Just an thought.Jim
