Hi Guys.In the back of my mind, I have always had the idea to make it possible to send an entire map's content (.crs flie) to one another. This would work much like sending trains, except the file transfered would be a .crs file (which is much larger.)I know for a fact that I have trains in maps that I rarely ever visit, and I think it would be ideal to be able to send the map's content to another person. Of course, after you post the .crs file, it will be removed from your machine to prevent duplication of cars.Let me know what you think, Jim
I think it is a good idea. Actually Rich Ginste and I have already done this via email. I was away last weekend, so I emailed my Calumet .crs file to him, and he took care of any trains coming into Calumet, then emailed the .crs file back to me on Sunday. One consideration in the way we did it is that the person receiving the .crs file not have any cars of their own in the yard in question, otherwise they will lose them (unless they back up their yard before receiving the .crs file). Some time ago there was a question (I think by Dave Honan) of being able to share trains from within a yard with another person, effectively sharing the yard. Is that similar idea still on the drawing board?Again, I am definitely in favor of sharing .crs files.Paul
Yes, I recall that you guys were sharing the .crs files manually, which concerned me because it could lead to duplication of cars if you're not carefull. That's what lead me to consider integrating this feature into the game.As far as sharing trains from within a yard, that is another interesting idea which I have never considered. Maybe it could work like this.1) Click on a train in a certain yard. 2) Remove it from the yard as a 'mini' crs file. 3) Post it to the server, similar to regular trains 4) Someone else downloads it to their hard drive. 5) Then when they click the 'Ride' button, instead of riding the train into the map, YD will attempt to place it in the same location as before. 6) If there is a conflict positioning the train in a map (for example if a train is already occupying the same location.) , the user will be able to ride it in instead.Basically this would provide an alternative to having to 'ride' all trains into a yard. I like the idea. Let me see what I can do... Jim
Well, I've been working all day on the second item and just finished it. You guys are going to like this, because it lets you send a train to someone else in the exact same location that it was on your computer.Jim
