Funny the things you do when you have insomnia. Here is a switching challenge for Acca Yard. Don't start this if you have something to do within the next 45 minutes to an hour. If you have cars or trains in Acca yard, you will need to back them up or at least backup the file 1083.crs in the server1/yards directory of YD. First, download the zip file attached to this message, unzip 1083.crs to your YD server1/yards directory (after first backing up the existing file). This is the set up for the challenge. Now open YD and go to Acca Yard. You should see one train sitting on the mainline (brown track) at the very bottom of the map with a few cars in the nearby sidings. If you don't, then you didn't copy the file correctly or didn't delete or backup your original. If you are ready, here is the challenge. First, make a note of your current account balance on the financials page. Jot down the number. Turn OFF mainline trains! They will wreck otherwise. I would suggest reading all the goals and rules first to get a sense of what you need to do and to start planning (and you will need to plan wwwaaaayyyy ahead) Goals:Move, deliver or pick-up cars as follows:1. The loaded cars in your train should be delivered to the siding indicated for each car. The empty flatcar should be left on the LOADING track for industry 10 and NOT just pushed over it and left on the unloading track. Once placed on their correct sidings, the loaded cars must not be moved! Important: the siding 10 cars to be delivered must not be moved once placed on the siding and uncoupled from the train. This will get you if you are not careful. 2. The empties on the loading tracks for industries 9 and 11 need to be moved as follows. 2 cars should be left on the LOADING track for industry 7 and 1 car should be left on the LOADING track for industry 8. 3. The loaded cars on industry tracks 7 and 8 as well as the loaded flatcar and two empty hoppers on industry track 10 must be taken back to the yard with you. The cars and engines on your departing train must be facing the same way as your beginning train. Engine before cars. 4. You are finished when all cars have been properly moved, picked up or dropped off in their appropriate tracks and your train is back on the mainline near it's original position with ALL SWITCHES THROWN TO THE MAIN (GREEN)POSITION. Be sure that the switches for the sidings are thrown to green, not just the mainline switch. This is important as it will help determine in how well you did in this challenge compared to others.BTW, the final position of cars should be as follows:
Track 9: 2 Empties
Track 8: 1 Load(ing)
Track 7: 2 Load(ing)
Track 11: 2 Empties
Track 10: 1 Load(ing)Flatcar, 2 Empty Open Hoppers, and 1 Empty Covered Hopper
There should be six cars in your train (plus one engine) when finished. RULES: 1. You cannot use the mainline. Once off the mainline, you must throw the switch to clear the mainline. Do not use 'mainline trains' option as the switches aren't properly setup for them on this challenge.2. An engine may only be coupled on one end at a time. You may not have cars coupled to both ends of the engine at once. 3. Cars may not completely leave the map. It is OK to back the train so that cars still attached to the engine temporarily are not visible, so long as part of the car or cut of cars is visible and loaded on the map. 4. No running switches. Cars may not be uncoupled until the entire train is at a complete stop.5. Cars may not be moved independent of an engine. This would be cheating. Shame on you for even thinking of it! That's it. When finshed, look at your financials and see what the difference is. You should have made some money for your railroad. The more efficient you were, the more you made. On my first try, which took about 45 minutes, I made $5,100. Did you do better?Have fun!
HINTS: If you get stuck, here are some hints. Don't use them unless you get totally frazzled (which you will). Hint 1: Move the empties to their designated spots first. Should be obvious since they have to be out of the way to deliver your cars. Hint 2: At some point you will have to leave cars hanging off the tail track below the runaround (the single track which leaves off the map at exit 7) in order to make a runaround move. Hint 3: Getting the industry 10 cars to be delivered in the proper order so that the flatcar is sitting over the loading ramp will be one of your biggest headaches. Plan for this. Hint 4: Make the pickup of the siding 10 cars and the delivery of the siding 10 cars one of your last moves.
