Q: I don't know where to find the 'verification code' that the OPTION screen asks for. In my MSN Outlook Express, which is supposed to be an acceptable service? Thanks, Rich A: The process works like this: 1) Provide your email address: e.g. JWisman@attbi.com 2) Provide your smtp srver: e.g. mail.attbi.com 3) Push the 'Send' button. This will cause your verification code to be sent to you using the items provided in step 1 and 2. 4) Check your email for the incoming message, which contains your code and type the code into the 'SMTP Verification' textbox. 5) Close and restart the game.Jim
Related topics in th FAQ are:--Why is there an 'email verification' system? The whole idea about the email verification code is that the game needs to be able to SEND emails. If the user puts an invalid email, then he will never receive a freight car delievery message, but that's his own fault. If he wants to receive them, he will put a valid address. But what if I send out a train and expect to eventually receive an email, but the person who delievers my freight, doesn't have the ability to send me one? Say he only has a Hotmail account, and only sends text emails via hotmail.com or whatever. The system breaks down because I won't receive an email and it's due to no fault of my own. The fact is that online players need to configure Yard Duty so that Yard Duty can send out emails at the appropriate time. That's what I am trying to enforce. Bottom line: The verification process actually verifies that the outgoing SMTP server is valid by sending an email to the users using the outgoing SMTP mail server. --How do I find out what my SMTP email server is?Your internet provider should be able to tell you what it is, if you are sending email using their service. If you are using MS Outlook, you can check the properties for your email account and find it in there.--I only have a hotmail account and don't have a SMTP server. Can I still play the game?Yes, but you will not be permitteed to send out a local freight train because, that will trigger the delievery of emails.--How do I get my SMTP Verification code?Provide your email address: e.g. JoeBlow@attbi.com Provide your SMTP server: e.g. mail.attbi.com Push the 'Send' button.
