Debutts is such an amazing yard, that I wanted to start a thread just for it. First off, I think everyone should thank Alan for making it. It was posted with a minimal amount of touch up work on my part. A yard like this is THE reason why Yard Duty was made. What other train game is going to let you operate on tracks as complex and prototypical as these? (am I tooting my own horn here?) So my questions are: Is this purely a NS facility? What is it's heritage? Southern? Norfolk Western? Where do they store the 'ready' locs for departing trains? Also, this is a good place to anounce that Alan has acheived the status of 'Master Mapmaker', an honor which I bestow upon those who contribute maps of superior excellence. Congratulations Alan! Jim
Thanks for the compliments Jim and hope that everyone enjoys the yard.I'll try to answer your questions as best I can. The yard is purely NS. CSX has a yard on the other side of Lookout Mtn - Wauhatchee Yard. DeButts was a Southern Yard before NS. As far as storage of locomotives, I know that crossing the bridge on the south (left side of map) side of the yard, if you looked to the north, there used to be a huge line of locomotives on a track to the left. I think this would be the track near the intermodal ramp. There may be trackage there now that wasn't on this map or I may have missed it. As a matter of fact, I never realized there were any intermodal facilities at DeButts and what looks like the intermodal containers and ramp on the map may be something else. But it looked like most of the locomotives were just in a line on a single track, other than the ones in servicing. Now this may have been locomotives that had been removed from active service which are stored at DeButts.I'll try to get some more info on DeButts and next time I am in Chattanooga will snap a few digital shots to post. Alan
