If I sort cars improperly using a hump, is it prototypical for a switcher to drive over the hump amd retarders to fix the improper classification? I sure hope so!Jim
AFAIK, that problem is USUALLY fixed by a trimmer crew working from the opposite end of the class tracks from the hump, but I'm not positive that it's not done.Paul Metzger NS Team Northern Region
I see that makes more sense. Maybe I should keep several trimmer crews over there, because I screw up alot. lol. For me a hump yard requires much more concentration. Maybe I'm just cut out for flat switching.Jim
How funny. I just humped my first 110 car train at DeButts and was wondering the same thing. I decided to put a trimmer crew at the other end of the hump yard and use it to fix mistakes. I didn't do too poorly. 110 cars, 3 misplaced cars! But was only sorting by state. Alan
That, pretty good. I started humping by state, with a unique color for each state. This was too hard for me, because there are destinations in many states now. I decided to take a 'Debutts-centric' approach to color coding the states to make it easier to sort at Debutts. In other words, I gave multiple states the same color based on their relation ot Debutts. This also made me realize that I need to make changing the state colors happen in real-time, becuase currently you need to exit the map and re-enter for the changes to take affect. Very poor...Jim
I had noticed that also, that when you make a state or yard color change you have to restart the game, I believe, to make the change active. I do a similar thing when sorting for California. I combine yards and industries that have common links and make two sorts for California trains. Very handy being able to change the colors like that.
It is all right to have the Hump engine go over and down the hump and through the retarders to get miss shifted cars, as long as the retarter operator know what is happening. The retarders do not stop you from runing up and down that track as they lay down off the rail head when not in use.I have seen it done lot's of times, in fact if the trimmer crew is goofing off the hump crew must do it.
