Name: Blue Ridge Subdivision (of CSX)Version: 3Released: 9/12/02Description: The Blue Ridge Subdivision of CSX run generally north & south from the
Division point of Erwin, TN, through the heart of the Appalachian &
Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Piedmont of NC and SC, to Spartanburg,
SC. There are many tunnels, 3 large bridge structures, many line-side
Industries, mainly associated with the Textile Manf. process. The line
Follows the Nolichucky/Toe River system from Unaka Springs, TN to
Altapass, NC, where it then penetrates the Blue Ridge via the Blue Ridge
Tunnel, followed by approx. 24 miles of descending 1.1% grade.Install Method: The BR sub. is delivered in 6 standard zip files with internal directories.
The user should create a directory under the ROUTES director of MSTS called
"BlueRidge", i.e. <drive>\program files\Microsoft games\Train Simulator\Routes\Blueridge.
The user should also create a scratch directory on a drive capable of holding 300 MB
which name may be of his choosing. Next unzip the contents of the first 5 zip files
(brsub31,brsub32,brsub33,brsub34,brsub35) into this directory. When asked about
over-writing the "readme1st" file, answer "yes" as all 5 are the same. After this
is done, copy all files, and directories from the scratch directory, into the
Blueridge directory under routes. Then run "installme.bat" from the root directory
of BlueRidge, i.e. from the BlueRidge directory. If any errors occur, it will mean
that you have not done a FULL install of MSTS.
Lastly, delete all the files and directories from the "scratch" directory, and unzip
the 6th zip file into it. This will yield two consist files and two more zip files.
The zip files have been obtained from the file library, and contain the Clinchfield
locomotives, and the CSX coal cars. The consist files should be copied into your
MSTS global consists directory, and then follow the instructions that are a part of
the two zip files to install the new equipment.Size of Download: 6 zip files, totalling 67MBT +-. The Largest single file is 23.2 MBT.Size Installed: 273MBT +-Prototype: Yes - the prototype sees upward of 40 trains in a 24 hour period.Freight/Pass: There has been no scheduled passenger service since 1954, however many railfan specials
have been operated. At least one of these in the early 90s featured SuperLiner equipment
and Genesis locomotives from Amtrak. The annual SantaClause special which many may have
heard about does not operate on this subdivision. (it stops at Kingsport, TN)Era: 1980 to present, and it can be back-dated to the steam era by installing appropriate steam
locomotives (mainline power was 2-8-2, 2-10-2, and several 4-6-6-4s. There were also
some compound 2-6-6-2, and 2-8-8-2 engines acquired from the N&W in the early 40s)Location: Eastern Tennessee, Western NC, Western SCLength Main: Approx. 140 milesLength Branches: Approx. 7 (one branch, Brice, NC to Cliffside Steam plant, built in 1938, still in daily use.)Number Sidings: Controlled-10, average 2 miles in length. Uncontrolled - 3 or 4, many industriesNumber Yards: 2Mixture of trk: All single trackDetail Level: Very high in spots, especially along Toe River, Loops, and near Broad & Pacolet Rivers.Amount Scenery: Approx. 60% scenicked - mainly in the areas that would be way too bare without it.FPS: 25-40 (System is a 1G Athlon, 512M Ram, GeForce 2 video card with 64Mbt on board Vram, latest
release of Direct-X and video drivers, Win-ME.Activities: 2 are provided (to reduce confusion). One is a southbound loaded coal train which starts at
Unicoi, TN, requires a crew change at Erwin, and terminates at Spartanburg. The other is an
Empty coal train, northbound, which starts at Spartanburg and requires an Erwin Crew change.
There is also the default "Explore Route" activity.Non-Default items: The program requires the CSX BethGon Coalporter found on the files site, and the CRR locomotives
also on the file site. Zips of these are included in the 6th route zip file. Standard track is
used. The route includes the improved signals by "Signalmaster" which were installed by Claude
Debnam in version 2 which was not a complete upload. Further credits are given in the "Readme1st"
file.Pay/Free: This route is Freeware, but the author cautions anyone making changes to claim it for himself if
he does and just footnote the originator.Problems: No known problemsWhere: It is located on the files site at Train-Sim.comThis message was updated by Tim Hunter. Nothing was removed or added to other than a header removed and spacing of topics adjusted.
