Route Name: Rollins Pass Version: 4.0 released June 17, 2004.Description: The Moffat Road from Denver to Granby via your choice of either the 6.21 mile Moffat Tunnel or Rollins Pass over the Continental Divide.Installation Method: Just unzip 5 traditional zip files and copy them into the Routes folder. No need to purchase or steal WinZip. No installer to click on. No batch file. No default routes required.Size of Download: 5 zip files, about 25 MB each.Size of Installed Route: Size on disk 336,642,048 bytes after MSTS generates terrain buffers upon initial route loading.Reality: This is a prototype route, except that it combines the old-time prototype route over Rollins Pass with the present day prototype route through the Moffat Tunnel. Freight or Passenger: Both, as well as mixed. Era or Genre: Around 1928, when the tunnel was opened to traffic. Steam facilities are present over the entire route. Location: Colorado USA. Length of Mainline: 99 miles via the pass, or 76 miles via the tunnel, Denver to Granby, plus a few miles at each end to slow down. Branches: Except for the choice of tunnel or pass, branches are short and more or less undeveloped, provided only to be seen from the mainline, or to enter or leave the mainline. These are Rocky Flats, Coors Branch from Golden, and Denver leads to/from DRGW Colorado Springs, UP Cheyenne, CB&Q Cheyenne, CB&Q Chicago, and a belt line east from Utah Junction. Number of Sidings/Passing Tracks: Many.Number of Yards: At least 8, with maybe 50 miles of track. C&S, UP, CB&Q (2), Fox, North, Utah Junction, Tabernash. Mixture of Dual and Single Track: Mostly single track with many passing tracks.Level of Trackside Detail: Substantial. Signals (buried on the pass because they were never really there), speed limits, buried mileposts, whistle posts, platforms all named, sidings mostly named. Sounds of animals, rushing water, wheel squeal. Working water towers and coaling towers, 26 stations.Amount of Scenery Completed: Substantial. Many buildings, roads, water, forests, deer, road crossings. Some people and vehicles. No moving vehicles. Accurate Moffat Tunnel portals, and some accurate models of buildings around and including Moffat Depot. Not much development in the Denver suburbs, in keeping with the earlier era; it was rural then. FPS: Speedster up to 60. Average trains 15 to 30s, except 8 to 11 around the Denver depots on a very busy tile. That's with Pentium 4 1.60 GHz processor, 768 MB RAM, and my new 128 MB ATI Radeon 9200 video card. The previous 16 MB ATI Rage video card provided FPS of 10-30, with a sometimes jumpy 6-10 around the Denver depots. Default game settings. Activities Provided: Just one extremely simple explore activity with a default locomotive is included in the route files, but numerous (36) start points in Explore Route. I expect to upload some activities in the future. Activities made by others for earlier versions will require correction of broken paths. Add-In Track and Roads Required: Xtracks v3.9 or later, Global tsection.dat build 22 or later, and NEWROADS v2.3 or later. Distribution: Freeware from Train-Sim.com only.Author: Donald W.
