Every traction route needs the nemeses of the trolley era - some of Henry Ford's products. I have completed a Model A pickup truck - the era is 1928-31.
And Tim Muir has already repainted it into a brown scheme. So, I put them in the same download, which should be in the Library tomorrow. Suitable for static display or in the carspawner, or both.
Following are photos by Wayne Campbell, Tim Muir, and Ed Hawkins.
Enjoy, Paul A Port City Car Co project.

RE: Model A Ford Pickups

Very nice pic's Paul, great lighting affects in the first one.
Were those A's actually painted that colour originally? very bold for the time. Thank you for the gift and I look forward to presenting these to some of the local farmers in my route, might keep me in potatoes for a while .
And you tease us a little methinks Sir. What are those great looking weeds/grass in the first pic?
Cheers

Hi Neville,I'll field your question about those fantastic weeds in the first pic. That is one of Wayne Campbell's Povray-rendered screenshots, which is a program that creates realistic lighting, shadows, and allows for editing things like weeds and such with the associated lighting efeects. The dandelions are 3-D models, some of which, the betas can be seen in my screenshot above of the brown pick-up and the Milwaukee boxcabs. He has to have a Pov-ray-dedicated route to make it work. Chuck Zeiler has also been working in Povray, and some of his shots can be seen here'n there. Cheers

RE: Model A Ford Pickups

Thanks for the info Tim.
Remember you describing this sometime ago now.
Obviously not a common method but it sure looks nice.Love the look of these cars and appreciate the texture updates Paul is going to upload. Only problem is I'll have to wait a few days to get into the file library as a new route has been uploaded and that's it for now without a premium membership.Cheers

RE: Model A Ford Pickups

I am not really into old cars, but I have a pretty large collection of Model A photos, that I used to build this pickup.
Apparently Henry Ford had this thing about his Model T's - you could have them any color you wished as long as it was black.
But that was not true when the Model A's came out. He had quite a bit of competition, and thus numerous body styles and colors available. I even found a photo of an orange and blue pickup owned by a Gulf filling station. Just do a Google search for Model A Ford.Oh yes, I have done another repaint, this time a dark green. And Tim wanted somewhat brighter headlights, so I have redone the ace files for the YELLOW and the BROWN pickups. Now you can see the headlights glow much better at night. See photo below for a comparison. I will try to get the improvements into the Library in a day or so.
Paul.

A suggestion for use

The bright light version is really neat in the car spawner! Did you all know that for use in the spawner, you don't need a REF entry? Rename, and use the dim light version for static placement, so that you don't have a bunch of cars with dead batteries!

I present this view to illustrate that either the car spawner or the roads themselves do not cast shadows. I don’t know which. But I turned the Dynamic Shadows ON in the Properties of the .ref file, but it doesn’t show shadows in the roads/spawner. It does show shadows as a Static Object. This is not a reflection on you Paul; rather, I think it’s a shortcoming of the sim.

Chuck, I'm not sure, becuase I'm not building routes right now, but I believe the ScaleRoads show dynamic shadows. Is that your Marias Electric route?

RE: Model A Ford Pickups

Great photo Chuck.
Notice the shadow on the ground in the foreground truck. But none in the truck on the road. I think the answer is that the road is 0.08 above the ground, and the shadow, if any, is underneath the road's surface.
Also notice that the flatmotor does not cast a shadow onto the road either. Just another problem with MSTS.
Oh, and here is a dark green pickup - which is going to the library shortly.
Paul.

Are those 3d people or regular 2d ones on panels? To me the nemesis of the streetcars was the GM New Look Bus ,they usually were the first buses brought in to replace streetcar lines.

RE: Model A Ford Pickups

I don't know 3D from 2D, so I will tell you that the woman on the back car is a Shape file, added with the FreightAnim line in the .wag file. I didn't keep exact records, but I will look it up, if you insist. This is where I get into trouble with the MSTS Aftermarket. A lot of folks have added a lot of stuff via the Train-sim.com File Library (FL), and I thank you very much. Early on, it was easy to add whatever appeared in the FL, and it was fun. Then came the copyright issue, so although I continued to add stuff, I became reluctant to share the results, fearing copyright infringment. In my mind, I'm not doing a bad thing, but since I don't have the expressed permission of the various authors, I'm in a quandry to share the information. For instance, I have a completely wired (trolley) version of Sea View #3, but unfortunately, cannot share it because I used a lot of FL objects, that were offered by a various authors, and I never bothered to ask for permission to use these objects. I didn't intend to become a crook, but rather I was just testing new developments. Basically, I was just looking at the new stuff as it was offered to me in the FL. Some of it made the cut, and are still in the route. Some authors have pulled their contributions from the FL, so I have to sort through that.
