Most of you have certainly seen or operated the Odakyu 7000 Series Romance trainset supplied by Kuju. What I'm looking for is any information on the 3000 SE Romance Cars, pioneering units which paved the way for high speed, multiple unit trains at least in Japan. To me, it looks that the styling of the unit strongly resembles the North Shore Electroliner, which came into service some 16 years earlier. There are a handful of pictures of the 3000 SE on the Internet, the most interesting being photos of the unit in service. Otherwise, there apparently was an open house where the unit was exhibited, and presumably it operates in excursion service. These are mostly front-end pictures. What I would like to have, ideally, is a rough side view with at least one key dimension. I remember thumbing through a Japanese-language book on private railway rolling stock long ago which probably had this train in it, but alas, I had neither the cash nor the wisdom to buy it. Like the 7000 Series, the coaches are mostly similar with important differnces in detail, like door positions, small windows at the end of the coach, presence of pantographs, and so on. What would also be helpful would be some configuration information, i.e. 4 car or 6 car trains, where the different cars are positioned, where the pans are, and so on. This can be gleaned from the few photos on the web with the units in service. Also, there appear to be two versions of the front ends with larger headlights, Japanese-style "drumhead", and so on. Any help would be appreciated.
