Final Hollywood Now Uploading – image 2Portland Traction Co. (of Oregon) bought eight 5050 class "Hollywoods" from Pacific Electric in 1953. The final model in the Hollywood series is the 4015

Note the plated-over side doors, where PTC had longitudinal seats placed. This slowed entry and exit times, and became the chief complaint on these cars.Final Hollywood Now Uploading – image 4
But they were still well-liked by the passengers and crews for their comfort, speed, and safety, and a vast improvement over the large wooden interurban cars they replaced, that were approaching 40 years of service.Final Hollywood Now Uploading – image 5
The plated-over bottom windows give the PTC cars a long and low sleek look.Final Hollywood Now Uploading – image 6
The interior view from the back shows the longitudinal seats across the center doors. Unfortunately, the PE shop crew left the local car cards and some rubbish on the seats, as you will find if you download the 4015.This car also features Kenji Kimura's fine cabviews. Also comes with trolley wheels instead of sliders and two versions, one each of the standard (US) wire heights. I hope this car will bring enjoyment and fun to those who download it. This will probably be the last thing I upload for an indefinate period of time. I reached a point of burnout a while ago, and then events in the real world have become too demanding, leaving little quality time to devote to model building. I hope this changes with time. Thanks folks, for downloading my models, which are actually the product of many people through help with resources, time, and much energy. It is with deep appreciation that I offer my most sincere thanks and gratitude. This is a great hobby with great people!

RE: Final Hollywood Now Uploading

*gasping* Is it real or Memorex!!?? The bottom pic is like... should be winning an award or something. Totally amazing! Some of the best pics pics I've seen for realism in MSTS. Awesome job! I figure one day I got to try a trolley route. I grew up around them but I never went on one. Anyway, great stuff! The interior has got to be the best craftsmanship work I've seen of anything! And we have have seen some great stuff.Rich Garber

Thank you Rich. This is the culmination of about 9 months of work, here and there. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. What is particularly satisfying is the emails I've recieved from some of the older simmers, who rode these cars way back when, and remark on how these models bring back fond memories for them. One, who had run them, even remarked on how closely the operation is to the prototypes, which is a testamant to Chuck Zeiler and Lukas Lusser, who worked on the physics. But when I read the emails thanking me for bringing back fond memories, well, that is the best reward for me. Mission accomplished! I would certainly be happy to see you build a trolley route some day. Thanks again.

RE: Final Hollywood Now Uploading

Tim:Let me add my accolades for such superlative work as well! That is simply incredible. You have indeed taken TSM and MSTS to much higher levels than (I suspect) even their creators thought possible. It saddens me to see that you're going to be stepping away from MSTS. I've always found your route work and your modeling very enlightening and inspiring. I always have a "wow" factor of 9.9 or higher when I see your work!Further, I've always appreciated your insight and the general tone I read in your posts. Please stop by my VSC forum and say "hi" once in a while. Hopefully, you'll discover that MSTS/simming (or as I call it "V scale")... is like model railroading in that we may take a an ocassional hiatus from it... but it's in the blood and we always return.

Hi Andre> Hopefully, you'll discover that MSTS/simming (or as I call it "V scale")... is like model railroading in that we may take a an ocassional hiatus from it... but it's in the blood and we always return.thanks for mentionning this comparison - to me it seems to hit the nail right on the head, actually. We all have our ups and downs in interests, even without real life aspects throwing sticks and stones our way occasionally. I sincerely hope and wish that the next "up" turn is already in the making for Tim, offering him some room for quality time to be spent with family, friends, whatever - and maybe one day in the future also with turning out some more examples of his unmatched traction modelling. The MSTS bug might be losing some of its bite with all of us due to the uncertainities about future developments & compatibility, but as the old Romans already said "something will always stick with us" (aliquid semper haeret).Tim, let me thus once more and in public express my thanks for your sharing your work with us, and I hope to see an occasional presence of yours in posts of these fora in the future!Lukas a.k.a Swissie

Tim,
Another outstanding model. Even the chrome hand holds seem to shine.
I understand burn out, and life's other problems, and trust you will continue with your magnificent models shortly.
Paul.

Final Hollywood Now Uploading – image 11

Paul, Andre and Lukas,Thanks guys. I do hope to get back into it someday. I have alot of unfinished business that needs attending to and family matters that have to be dealt with. I will have time for a visit here and over at Elvas Tower often enough. So, I won't disappear entirely. I will still be available to throw my two centavos in where needed. Cheers!

Glad to hear it's that you're only stepping away from building and such and not from the fora altogether.

More enjoyment from the skills of Tim Muir.
Tim, I want to publically acknowledge the support you have given to me and so many others in this hobby.
Your ability to get so much out of TSM is amazing and in particular the Wanganui tram you so generously built for my route.
I understand your need for a break and wish you all the best.
I look forward to your return as I know the addiction does kick back in
Cheers

Neville, Mike, and Dick,Thanks for your compliments. I'm glad that the projects turned out as well as they did, and I'll just reiterate, it was done with the help of many folks. Dick, thanks. Things have been getting harder to deal with. I thought it would be easier as time goes on, but that is not the case. I'm getting older and slower, and worn down with each passing day. I hope God does give me the strength. Thank you.Matt, I have plans for the PE "Tens". If anyone wants a copy to build the 1061, they can give me a ring. About 40 karats would do

Yes, James, it is a route that isn't a route. It's basically a 14-tile scenic module. Only about 3 tiles are used. I use it to test models and ideas, and to shoot screenshots.

I've packed alot into it. The downtown area you've seen above, with the 8-track carhouse, also has a small freight yard adjacent to it, an industrial section, several loops and turning wyes, and a narrow-gauge trolley connection to a small community on the beach, at "Seaside". The narrow-gauge line features a 4-track carbarn, a loop, and a couple wyes, undeveloped. On the opposite side of the downtown area, to the south is the "Sunnyside" line which leaves town on it's own right-of-way,
Final Hollywood Now Uploading – image 26
and runs up the side of the mountain to the east, winding back and forth with several hairpin (30 to 60 dg) curves to reach the park and hotel overlooking the town below. There's another wye up there to turn the cars for the return trip.
Final Hollywood Now Uploading – image 27Final Hollywood Now Uploading – image 28
The Sunnyside line was inspired by the Pacific Electric's Mt. Lowe line, and Portland, Oregon's "Council Crest" line. There are other areas under developement, in other tiles, but I've quit working on the route due to other developments. And with the advent of Scalerail, I'd like to begin fresh on a new version of this route, leaving out the bad ideas....someyear

RE: Final Hollywood Now Uploading

Finnaly got them all, All I can say is thanks, the rest has all ready been said, great models look great and drive well.As for the problem of modelling the system, I don't think there a program or even if therw was a computer that has enough poer to load its all, it was a inpressive system. I suggest selective reduction. I know the Echo mountain sections id being done, another section that would be good maybe is the Ballon route excursion, could be a lot of fun and would atleast include a section of the 4 track mainline Watts to city, would this bee too large?
