RE: streetcar named desire

Bradhig; I lived in NOLA from the early 1950's and all NOPS cars were green. They just reopened the Canal St line with Red and Cream cars and the artical said this was the first change in car colors in a 100 years. Now the tourest line on the river front don't count as they run Aussie cars on that line. But they do a good job and you can ride from the Quarter out to the zoo on former IC trackage. The Canal st car have a old fashion roof added to them but they don't care and run well anyway. David

RE: streetcar named desire

While NO used to use the Aussie cars on the river front, they do not now, and haven't for a year or so.
The riverfront line was a standard gauge line, where poles were put up beside the old steam-diesel freight (New Orleans Public Belt) line. It has now been regauged to the NO broad gauge, and the Aussie cars retired. The new, home-built, red cars are air conditioned, and have wheelchair lifts for the disabled. They are made to resemble the old Perly-Thomas St. Charles cars. These red cars are now used on the riverfront and also on the new Canal Street line.
