Just had to show off the magnificent work of Tim Muir in reproducing this car for my rail/tramway route.
The quality of the work is absolutely amazing and is keeping me away from work on the route while I play.
The pictures are a couple sent by Tim, on his test route. My route is nowhere near advanced enough to provide suitable backgrounds.
Many thanks Tim.Wanganui Corporation Tramways – image 1Wanganui Corporation Tramways – image 2

You are very welcome Neville. It gave me a chance to build that Brill 21E truck I always wanted! Lets also offer our thanks to Paul Deverter for his lighting and loco.ace, Chuck Zeiler for his engine file tweaks, and Chris Lindop for his cabviews, sounds, and basic engine file.Another community effort that works!Tim

RE: Wanganui Corporation Tramways

Yes your right Tim, my apologies for not acknowledging the input from Chuck, Paul and Chris. A great community to be involved with.I wonder if anyone can help with a small problem with number 10 as I mentioned to you.
For some reason the car will not load as the player car in an activity. It is fine if placed as a static near the start point and ok as an AI tram.
When designated as the player tram, the sim freezes when I select the activity.
If I change number 10 for another model in the same activity there are no problems.
The car works fine when called as the player tram in explore.
I can't work this one out and I have never experienced this before?
Cheers

RE: Wanganui Corporation Tramways

Hi Neville, first suggestion: in your .eng file, check the linePassengerCapacity ( .. )( .. ) being any number higher than 0. This line is my first suspect if something with the passenger loading / unloading does not work as it should. If it were amiss, your car would run fine but not load passengers at stops. As you say it freezes upon loading the activity, I assume there could be something irregular in that line that MSTS does not like. Lukas a.k.a Swissie

I just tried to run the car in an activity with the passenger statement removed, but it still crashes when selecting the act. It is somewhere in the engine file, but darn if I can see what's causing it. Lukas, I sent you a link to where you can DL the motor, if you have the time, to take a look at the engine file. We'd sure appreciate it. In the meantime I may just substitute a Brill engine file as a temporary measure, so Neville can build his activities.Thank you!Tim

I completely scrapped the old engine file and started over with Chris's Blackpool 167 engine file, making all the pertinent changes to reflect the Wanganui car. Well, it works now. There must've been some slightly out of whack line, quote or bracket, or-?? At any rate, my sample works in activities, so, Neville, lets see if it works for you ( I sent you a copy just now, if you're reading this).Wanganui Corporation Tramways – image 8Tim

Hi Tim
Yep, that did it. No problems at all now and great to have it working as the player tram.
Thats a nice pic of old number 10. Very atmospheric.
Great sight to have a street full of these trundling up and down.
Thanks for your input as well Lukas. I'll tuck that info re passenger loading away for reference.
Cheers

Don't gag Matt! Heh heh...thanks for your praise. I don't know about best MSTS tram ever, tho. But it's my best effort to date. I'm really pleased with how it turned out, although it took alot out of me. But I now have a pretty good Brill 21E truck as a base for future models, and the basic Wanganui car has possibilites for further designs. I have ideas for a sprinkler,a sand car, a closed version, even a small boxmotor. Just need more time, that's all... and energy too.Wanganui Corporation Tramways – image 12
Brill 21E 4-Wheel truck, with magnetic track-brakes.The truck was built-up using bar stock ( boxes) and tubes. I did it this way because making an alpha on a flat sheet just doesn't do the truck justice. I did have to make some compromises with some of the parts, but that's standard operating procedure with TSM. The cross-members that the motors are bolted to are supposed to be twisted 90 degrees ( from horizontal to verticle)from about 8 inches from the ends. But because this created "unwanted" polys, between the points of the twists, I couldn't make this detail without adding even more polys. The only alpha'd bits on the truck are the somewhat ornate pilot brackets.Tim
