(1) I noted some interesting comments about the U79 tram route. However when I downloaded the zipped files they wouldn't unzip (using Winzip 8). It took me ages spreading the downloads over a few nights as it took so long and I am on dial-up.
(2) I came across a reference somewhere to a tram route called "Tower Tramway" - anyone know where it is?!Bobby Howie
Ps Another interesting German tram route is Linie 27

RE: U79 Tram route and Tower tramway queries

You probably need WinAce to unzip the U79 files.I am waiting for version 2, due out "in the Spring".There is a Tower Mountain Tramway or Tower City Tramway on one of the German web-sites. Other German tram routes are Rheinbahnnetz (Dusseldorf), Linie 5 (Koln), Linie 17 (Koln), Mountain City tramway and Tram City. There are probably others which I can't remember. They may not be all still available and I can't remember which web-sites.Eric in UK

I have good luck using the zip utility in Route-Riter. I suggest giving it a try. It is very useful for many other things too.

RE: U79 Tram route and Tower tramway queries

Thanks to those who replied. I will try the alternative zip programme. There was no indication from what I could translate that the 5 U79 files were individual but we will see! Re the Tower City, yes, I think it was the "Tower City tramway" I did see on some German site so maybe I will find it again! I do have the new Blackpool CD and found a few tram routes on the "Regional Railways" prog (UKTS)
I did get a copy of a MCT route but there seems to be something missing it it and my attempt at a replacement via someone has been fruitless so far.
My thanks again to all from deepest Glasgow, the former tramway capital of Scotland (and 2nd biggest system in the UK!!). If anyone comes up with any routes would appreciate knowing!
Regards tramfans,
Bobby

RE: U79 Tram route and Tower tramway success!

Well success of a kind! I did manage to get into U79 and am very impressed by the prog although for some reason I can't load the tram file, doesn't seem to work so I just run one of my trams instead. I will keep looking for Tower tramway etc on german sites and hope I eventually succeed!!

RE: U79 Tram route and Tower tramway success!

Bobby,As of to-day, the Koln route 19 is available for download on the Betriebshof-Koeln.de web-site. There are also several trams for that route. The download is 113Mb !!!Looking at the pictures (small) on the web-site, it appears that the wire height is 5.4 m, as with their Linie 5, whereas the trams, at least the B80's, use 6m wire height as on U79. I could be wrong here. The Koln trams could be used on U79. I have the earlier ones and these latest downloads may extend the range.I have U79 and Koln trams and could email zip files. I have the installed version and a modified version, mainly on the lights, but they run normally as the installed version. My email is eaharding@blueyonder.co.ukI remember (just) seeing the trams in Glasgow in 1952.Eric in UK

U79 Tram route and Tower tramway queries – image 5

Hi,I have downloaded the route yesterday evening and installed it.
But the route suffers from the common German route problem, using specific German characters in filenames, so MSTS gives tons of messages about not found objects, sd files and so on. At last I got the S/DS messsage.
I managed to rename the filenames of the s and sd files using the right characters, but MSTS is still not happy and complains about several not found objects. But at least I got the route started without S/DS!
So I plan to rename the objects and the world files, so they are using "normal" characters. So be aware that this route may cause problems on non German systems!Seeing the screenshots, I think that this route may be of the U79 quality.I have downloaded all the tram cars too.
Little bit chaotic. One car is using the 7000 cab, an other the 2000 cab, an other the old BD80 cab and the same for the sounds.
Now I have all BD80 based stuff changed so that it is using the cab and sound that came with the U79 BD80's.
And there are several other errors too. Use ConBuilder to check all the cars.Dick van den HovenU79 Tram route and Tower tramway queries – image 6
