Hi!After a number of false starts, I'm developing my definitive first route: the South Troy Traction (STT). It's a free-lanced traction line long about 5 or 6 miles based in South Troy, a small city where there is the STT car barn and seven industries: South Troy Lumber, Peabody Paints, ALG Cement, Ye Olde Brewery, Farmers Co-op, ACME Cannery and a junk yard. Two of them (South Try Lumber and Peabody Paints) are close to the passenger station in South Troy downtown, the others are served by a spur (7th Street Spur) that branches off the main line from 7th Street Jct. This spur has also a small yard called Wanamaker Yard. Next location is Yuki Siding: it's a simple passing siding lost in the middle of the Longwood State Park. Then there is Longwood Gardens, a small village home of the STT substation, as well of Longwood Grain Elevator and Bauer's Creamery. Next town is Cross Plains where the STT interchange with a mainline railroad. There is a second freight yard as well a spur leading to Midwest Printing. The line continues to Meuthen Lake, just a hotel with a beautiful view of the lake; between Cross Plains and Meuthen Lake there is only a passenger service. Reversing wye are at South Troy car barn, Cross Plains and Meuthen Lake.
At present the track is totally laid and the scenery is mostly completed between Cross Plains and Yuki Siding. Rolling stock will include repainted Mesaba #10 created by Matt Austin, as well a box motor and a steeple cab both by Tim Muir.I include some screenshot of the route.
1) Cross Plains
2) Hill Road stop, just south of Cross Plains
3) Longwood Gardens

This has the makings of a great little route. Do you need any overhead? I have dozens of designs for the asking. Also, it appears you have an old version of the Mesaba 10. There's a more detailed update in the FL. Also the ME 101 boxmotor. I'll echo Wayne: Any questions, just ask.

Hi ivanfurlanis I second my two prominent precessors. Looks like a nice little system for a relaxing run. Just make sure the interchange point for the relieve crews working the evening shift is not too close to Ye Olde Brewery. Good luck with your route's further development, and looking forward to learn more about it.Cheers Lukas a.k.a Swissie

RE: South Troy Traction: my definitive first route

Hi!I'm happy you like my small route. Today I added some tree in Cross Plains (I like green towns) but I spent most of the time to build the town of South Troy. I added also another reversing wye in Wanamaker Street Yard.I send you thee aerial view: the first two are taken in Cross Plains, the third in Longwood Gardens.I don't placed overhead poles yet, as I'll put only when the trackwork will be definitive.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-04 AT 05:14 PM (EST)

Hi Ivanfurlanis, thanks for the update. If you are interested in it: I did some repaints of the default "resiblock1/2/3.s" files which I needed to build some of the towns in the MountE revamp I'm working on (see posts in this forum - some of those repaints are visible there), including adding night textures to them. In total 3 repaints - each good for 3 different shape files - gave me additional variety with 9 cityblocks. They are quite good for quickly building large town areas or distant backdrops without (too) negative effects on the frame rates. It is some of the other buildings that can make city sceneries awful frame rate killers, but I'm learning some dirty tricks to get around this problem, too).Anyway, in a nutshell, if you would see a home for the additional resiblock1a/1b/1c.s, resiblock2a/2b/2c.s and resiblock3a/3b/3c.s files in your route, drop me a note here and I'll see to get a zip file together that you could download once you need it. Just a thought... Kind regards, LukasLukas a.k.a Swissie

Hi Swissie.I'm very interested in your repainted resiblock. If you want, you can send me at ivanfurlanis@libero.it ot ivanfurlanis2@libero.it.Today a new screenshot, this time from South Troy with Mesaba #10 leaving South Troy covered station (that will be repainted with a new texture). On the very left of the image the spur leading to Peabody Paints. In the background the car barn by Tim Muir.Greetings from Padova (Italy).Ivan Furlanis

RE: South Troy Traction: my definitive first route

Buona sera, IvanI'll send the repaints over to you in the next few days. That may be a short wait, though: Due to the latest viruses hiding in .zip files, my mail server at the university is currently not allowing the sending nor the receiving of zip files, and does automatically delete any zip attachement it finds. I do have to wait until the servers are updated with an antivirus software that allows screening of .zip files...Thanks for your patience,
