http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?27559There's something peculiar about this picture, yet I can't put my finger on it. It's... a Redbird... in a train of R62A's. Would this be one of the double trip cock equipped motors leading a rake of single equipped R62As through from the BMT lines at queens plazza?Arn't the trip cocks fitted on one side for the IRT lines and the other for the IND/BMT lines?Paul

RE: D... D... Don't you see it?
Yup...this is correct.IND/BMT trip cocks are mounted on the left side of the track while IRT trip cocks are mounted on the right side of the track. Some cars (such as that redboid) are equipped with dual trip cocks to allow passage between the divisions (the only ones I know of is at the east end of Queensboro Plaza on both levels.)Stuart D. BTW Paul, don't mistake Queensboro Plaza with Queens Plaza, 'cause I ended up in Queens Plaza one day and I was searching all over the station for a transfer to the 7. That train is at Queensboro Plaza and the redbird is a pilot car. Notice that the train is crossing from the IRT side to the BMT side. The trip cocks on the IRT are on the opposite side from the BMT/IND. Redbirds had them on both sides, but R62s did not, so for a while, redbirds were pilot cars on trips to Coney Island. The R62s have now been refitted for operation on all three divisions, so the redbird pilot cars are a thing of the past. BTW: You have another chance to ride the arnines. February 28/29, from Columbus Circle (again) running down the Southern Division. Lunch stop is at Brighton Beach if you miss the train (and already have your ticket).
