Announcement - we are uploading our latest (and maybe greatest)issue to the library - The Chesapeake & Western Railbus #51 - including a Trailer for Passengers. The body was built by J. G. Brill Co. in 1920, for Mack Trucks, who supplied the chassis and drive train. The trailer was built entirely by Brill. This MSTS model has been extensively researched and created over a several month period - by William Hall, Chuck Zeiler, Paul DeVerter, Tim Muir and Ted Ahner.
With very high detail, inside and out, the railbus 51 includes reasonably accurate controls, and excellent animations, but the speed and horsepower have been increased to handle the MSTS terrain (and also a trailer or two). The maximum speed of the Railbus has been set to 50 mph. (The prototype only had a max speed of 30mph).
Operation requires some practice and skill, and is provided with a four speed transmission (as was the prototype), in both forward and reverse. Further, there are two sets of brakes, and five throttle positions. Not for the feint of heart, right? Please read the operating instructions.
You can download it from the Train-Sim library.. "Railbus51.zip"

The answer to your question can be found in a well-written and fascinating book entitled "Interurbans Without Wires." I forget who wrote it, at this moment, but could probably find that out by day's end... -Phil

Got that book... Can't remember the author either. great resource.. Have another one that I can't think of the name of right now that's also a great resource. I want to say it has a McKean Windsplitter on the front.

Congratulations to all the team. Although, Bill, I don't know why you included me in on the list of developers. I had very little to do with this project, other than a couple comments during beta tests. It might be mentioned that some class-1's operated these machines on their less-travelled branchlines during the 20's and 30's. The Spokane Portland & Seattle Ry. had one (#1103)that they operated on their Astoria branch, between that city and Seaside, for several years. It was of a heavier design, tho, and first came equipped with a baggage door at the rear, later plated over.Timtimmuir@wcn.net
