Port City Car Company and Tim's Traction Stuff (Pacific Traction Works) announce the release of Willamette Valley Railway electric interurban coach No.2100. Two un-powered trailer coaches are to follow shortly. These are built from the Mesaba Railway coach No. 10, recently released.

RE: Just Uploaded

You got ahead of me on this one Tim. I'll catch up.I put the 2100 into the Paint Shop to give it a name, since the trailers have names, it only seemed right. After that, it went to the Electric Shop for more horsepower. I haven't tested it yet with the trailers on Dead Man's Hill, but I should be able to do that in a day or two. Then I'll issue the new WVR2100.eng file.Just Uploaded – image 6

RE: Just Uploaded

Chuck, I was going to suggest putting the higher horsepower enginefile in with the trailers, so that anyone wishing to boost the power for hauling those trailers could pop that into the WVR2100 folder. I think you could do both, plus add that "mesides.ace" with the name on the side. That looks sharp!Timtimmuir@wcn.net

RE: Just Uploaded

Well, I don't know about the King bit, but thanks just the same Matt. I still consider you to be my mentor. It was you that got me started building traction equipment, and helped me figure out TSM way back in the dark ages. And of course, Chuck Zeiler, Paul DeVerter and Bill Hall made this car happen as well as yourself. It was truly a community effort! ( Along with the Open single-truck trolley and the Mesaba cars). Chuck and I are working on improving the 2100 even further and will be uploading an "Enhancement Package" that will include a new sides ace, an improved engine file for pulling the two trailers that are in the works, and a NEC wire-height version. All following projects will also come in 7.2 and 6.2 meter wire heights. This is a list of what's on our plate for future release (that I'm building)In order of pending release:
1. NYCTA Steeplecabs Nos. 6 and 7, "Subway Steeplecabs"
2. Oregon Electric Jewett Combine Baggage/Smoker/Passenger wooden interurban, single-end.( awaiting cabviews)
3. O.E. GE 60-ton, 600 h.p. steeplecabs, Nos. 22, 24, 26 and 10,a re-issue of the 1940 44-tonner.
4. Portland Electric Power Co. GE 44-ton steeple cab No.1409.
5. 13-bench Open double-truck trolley.
6. OE Caboose No. 029, (a Northern Pacific Ry. standard 1700-class 24-footer)
7. Pacific Electric 600-700 Class "Hollywood" in PE and Portland Traction schemes. (gathering data on this one). These are just a few of the items I'm currently involved with. There are numerous other scenery objects and support items in the works also. So, back to work.....Just Uploaded – image 9Timtimmuir@wcn.net

Lukas, that certainly is a fine-looking motor! Have any more that clear? I am really hoping to get started on the Hollywoods soon. I have the backdrops and the line-drawings ready for TSM. I just need to wait for "the moment" - where inspiration hits, and I can proceed. And, to set the record straight, I didn't introduce the choice of wire heights. Wayne Campbell and Port City Car Company both have issued cars with choices for wire height. I just believe that car builders ought to make these choices a regular part of their models. It doesn't take much extra work. But you're welcome anyway. Timtimmuir@wcn.net

RE: Just Uploaded

Hi Tim,that was my best shot - and the only one I've scanned so far - of one of the few survivors, sitting at the Orange Empire Museum in Perris, CA. Apart from the 637, the museum had a second one (the 717) sitting next to it: painted in a non standard red/beige livery (with PE lettering), in fair condition i.e. a little more worn than the 637 in the above picture, but otherwise complete and reasonably sound. I think there was even a third one sitting in the museum back-yard, under tarp and somewhat in need of attention, but I can't remember for sure and have no number either.I'll see that I can get a scan of the 717 done in a couple of days - I've got a bunch of slides I want to bring to the lab for scanning anyways... For more information & inspiaration: Try to get hold of a copy of "The Pacific Electric In Color", Vol. 1, by P.Allen Copeland (ISBN 1-87888788-2). Lots of pictures in there, plus some route maps and other memorabilia, +90% of it in color. Although the color slides of the late 1940ies and 1950ies that were used for that pictorial can't compare to todays standards, there still are a lot of pictures "with an atmosphere" in that book. (I got my copy a while ago from the shop at San Diego's RR museum in Balboa Park, and hope some copies are still available).Lukas a.k.a Swissie

Tim:
I'll certainly be looking foreward to the Hollywood cars. Never seen one or rode on one, but have seen them in the movie "Roger Rabbit" and in pictures, but for a train buff, I guess that's all it takes. You're certainly the man for the job on this one. You're work is top notch. We can only hope to do as well.Frederick Dreany

About 2 days into it. I'm still going to need some interior photos, or arrangement drawings. I fire up my copy of Roger Rabbit for inspiration once in a while , that usually gets me going! Thanks for all the support and comaraderie! Hope you get your new PC soon! Timtimmuir@wcn.net

Hi Frederick, yes, I remember seeing three of them in that car barn in the movie. So sad to see what beautiful & elaborate system LA once had, and how they swung the axe on it. Over 1000 miles of trolley and interurban track, just imagine how that city could look and tick along today if those had remained in place and expanded along with its growth...Just fyi: I sent Tim the higher resolution 1500x1000 jpeg of the picture above, for more details when used as a reference. Will try to locate more pictures.Just a recommended starting point: http://www.oerm.org/
There's also a picture of 717 in the different color scheme, apparently called the "valley seven" scheme: http://www.oerm.org/pages/pe717.htmlA private collection of photos from 1947/49 (!):

Truly impressive work on this unit, Tim! The undercarriages are fantastic along with little details like the lantern on the deck. I sometimes wonder if the people paying a fortune for O and HO gauge models know what they're missing out on. Many do not seem aware of our special niche in the hobby of model trains. The spoke wheels really make this one special.Frederick Dreany

Just so everyone knows...Orange Empire Railway Museum is actually in possession of 5 "Hollywood" cars that I'm aware of. Car 717 is painted in the "Valley 7" livery, just for representation purposes (all 15 of the Valley 7s were sold to Argentina, and I don't remember hearing that any survive today), and is the only operational "Hollywood" on the property. Cars 637 and 716, while on rails, and painted nicely; need a complete mechanical overhaul to be operational, and a complete interior restoration to be serviceable. There was one car located on some non-connected storage tracks amidst a cluster of equipment south of Carbarn 1 (the primary 3'6" carbarn), last time I visited... but it may have been placed in the Carbarn 2 service yard since then. The fifth is out in the back lots.
