Ok, couple of you have been working on my R142 NYCTA subway cars. This is a bit of an update to y'all.NH, I've got the file ready to send you, but I've just forgotten. I should have it in the mail by tonight.Kirk, your email doesn't work. mind seeing if there's something up with it? I tried resending the corrected .s file to you but couldn't get through. The rest:Ok, I've not fixed the lighting issues yet. I'm not good with that and don't feel up to tackling it. Yeah, I know the wheels don't turn. I'm still working on that and should have you an updated .s file later this week that fixes it. (I know i've been promising that for a while, it's coming) If someone wants to do the lighting, feel free, as for skining it shouldn't be too hard. It would be nice however, if someone could make the third rail shoe (which really needs rebuilding) flash.I'm going to start on Ver 2 soon, hopefully building a new body with complete interior, and working doors. I think there's a way I can do this without having to use the p key. I'll get back to you on that though. Finally, you are free to post pics of the units I've sent, or repaint them as you see fit. That's it guys. Have fun Magick out.

RE: Paging Kirk (and testers)

What?
Is there any way I could beta-test these? I ride on them almost every day. Does the name (Interborough) give you any clue how much I want to beta these?
"This is Fourteenth Street, Union Square. Transfer is available to the 4, 5, N, R, Q, W, and L trains."
"This is a Brooklyn bound 4 express train. The next stop is Brooklyn Bridge, City Hall."
"Stand clear of the closing doors, please!"
"This is Seventy Second Street. Transfer is available to the 1 and 9 trains."
"This is a Brooklyn bound 2 express train. The next stop is Times Square, Forty Second Street."
"Stand clear of the closing doors, please!"
Now guess the train below:
"This is Brooklyn Bridge, City Hall. Transfer is available to the 4, 5, J, M, and Z trains."
"This is the last stop. Thank you for riding with MTA New York City Transit."
"Stand clear of the closing doors, please!"
A few minutes later...
"This is a Bronx bound 6 train. The next stop is Bleeker Street."
"Stand clear of the closing doors, please!"
"Stand clear of the closing doors, please!"
"This is Eighty Sixth Street. Transfer is available to the 6 train."
"This is a Bowling Green bound 5 express train. The next stop is Fifty Ninth Street."
"Stand clear of the closing doors, please!"
Also...
"This is Sixth Avenue. Transfer is available to the 1, 9, 2, 3, F, and V trains. Connection is available to PATH trains."
"This is a Brooklyn bound L train. The next stop is Fourteenth Street, Union Square."
"This is Wyckoff Avenue. Transfer is available to the L train."
"This is a Myrtle Avenue bound M train. The next stop is Knickerbocker Avenue."
"Stand clear of the closing doors, please!"
Please tell me if I left any line out. I know what they are supposed to sound like. I know what they look like, inside and outside. I use "Interborough" here. I REALLY want to beta these.
One more question. What line are these modeled for?

RE: Paging Kirk (and testers)

Version one is a generic model that isn't set up for any specific line. Version Two will feature three or four main types, built for specific lines with the correct numbering and lettering.also, it will:Have accurately modeled trucks with third rail detail.Opening doorsDetailed cabview (on the correct side too)Detailed Couplers

RE: Paging Kirk (and testers)

There are only 4 lines that operate the R142/R142A: The 2,4,5, and 6 trains. The 2, 4, and 5 run the R142. The 6 runs the R142A. There is no exterior difference (correct me if I'm wrong); they just sound totally different leaving and arriving at stations.

RE: Paging Kirk (and testers)

Actually, there are two of the new R types available. One (the one i've done so far) is shaped like the redbirds. The other, the 143, isn't. It's kinda squatter, resembling the london underground cars more than anything.Sound wise, well now I might be able to do that. I think, I could modify the ok to procede sound to say whatever the various trains should

RE: Paging Kirk (and testers)

I thought that the trains on the 4 were the same as the trains on the 2 and 5. Only one train was painted in a special livery, and that was during the Subway Series in 2000 (Yankees def. Mets, 4 games to 1). A set of redbirds was painted for the Mets and ran on the 7 line. A set of R142s (or R142As) was painted for the Yankees and ran on the 4 line. It did make appearences on the 7 after the series. The train is back in normal livery for the new cars.

>I thought that the trains on the 4 were the same as the
>trains on the 2 and 5.About half of the trainsets on the 4 are R142s, but there are also 7 R142A trainsets (7661-7730) that ran that line before the remaining R142s showed up. Plus, there will be another 8 R142A trainsets on the way.

RE: Paging Kirk (and testers)

Magick-maker:
I think that the new Kawasaki and Bombardier cars, with parts from Alstom, are very good-looking, with the IRT R142 being my favorite. Although these cars are new, it looks to me like they already have a huge fan base. I personally am looking foreward to seeing your MSTS rendition of it and am happy that you have decided to make this unit. Certainly I am aware of how much effort goes into the building and testing of a car for MSTS such as these. My car-building partner, Jeff Link and I have discussed the possibility of making older model IRT cars and will certainly issue a World's Fair repaint version of the No.7 line R36 car. Finally, subway cars are being discovered, as the cars that millions ride on a daily basis and become a part of people's daily experiences and memories.Frederick Dreany

RE: Paging Kirk (and testers)

I'm already getting tired of them. It's true, they have the best air conditioning of any subway car, and you can actually hear the announcements, but those announcements get annoying after about 10 times. I prefer the R143s to the R142/R142As, but that's just my opinion. It's also that I love the redbirds, and the last ones are just now being replaced by R62As bumped from the 4 (after switching its R62s for the 3's R62As) and 6 trains by the new cars. Now the only train with a front window is the nortbound 3 train (the southbound end has a wide cab, and the locals have wide cabs on both ends like the 4 train) and the trains on the B Division (BMT/IND) like the A,C,E,F,J,M,N,Q, and Z trains, and the M only on weekdays.
