I was wondering, has anyone made any of the "car stop" or "interurban stop" signs prototypical on old trolley and interurban lines? They were usually triangular sings hung from a pole or guy wire at places where the cars would make regular stops for passengers. I'm working on a Pacific Electric line in southern California. I tried to make one myself out of one of the other signs I had downloaded here by just retyping the sign in the textures and changing the alpha channel, but that didn't work. If anyone has made any of these signs, please let me know! Thanks.

RE: Trolley "car stop" signs

Tim,It's great to see that you've been at work on your traction projects! I love that scene in your screen shot! I'll see if I can find some pictures of the signs to email to you, but basically they were just plain white signs with black lettering. The Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, CA has a trolley loop line and they use signs like that...also an "x" or "controller off" to indicate where circuit breakers, frogs, or other places are where the motorman should switch off the controller and let the trolley coast to avoid damage to the overhead hardware from arcing. Oh, and also, do you think I might be able to "borrow" that really neat switchbox and lamp you have on that pole? If so, you can email the files to me at gatecityca@aol.com, and of course I will give you credit for any of your files that I use in my route. Keep up the good work!

RE: Trolley "car stop" signs

Tim,Yep, I got your mail and sent you a reply. Thanks! The signs look great. I love that area lamp too! What route is pictured in your screen shot here? I know you've been working on a few. That's an awesome scene in that shot; you almost feel like like you can step right through the screen back into trolley car days! Although I did notice that tv repair shop...hehehe, so it's a restored line, eh?Chris

RE: Trolley "car stop" signs

Chris,The route is one I've been working on for a couple of weeks since I switched over to XP, with a better vid card and faster processor. My other routes are mothballed on the old ME which has been relegated to my daughter. I have a CD-burner now, so I'll be burning the route on discs as I go along. Yah, the TV Repair sign has to go! (Altho I've thought about that 'restored' line idea. It'd give good reason to run all sorts of equipment)
Glad you liked the stuffTim

RE: Trolley "car stop" signs

I've been keepin my head down, Gary. I've been busy changing over to XP and culling out my msts files. I've started a new route to test out this XP in the RE. I'm also busy building and modifying several new cars and traction objects for this route. How're you doing with the "Roarin' Elgin"?Tim

Temporaly halted for a bit,I've got to go back in tweak some tracks just a bit, finish the yard at Wheaton, finish the C&NW east of Wheaton and lay the CTA's section of the loop at Forest Park. Then of course the fun part signals and scenery.Gary S

RE: Trolley "car stop" signs

Gary,Everytime someone here mentions the CTA and Forest Park it gives me the shivers! I used to live in Forest Park and caught the El train at that station on Des Plaines Avenue to go down to Chicago with my mom many, many times. I lived in an apartment near the corner of Ferdinand and Madison Street. I Moved to California in 1987. Let me know when that part of your route is finished and send along some screen shots!

RE: Trolley "car stop" signs

oh yeah...I just remembered, Gary. You were working on a Chicago, Aurora, and Elgin route, right? I looked at a CA&E system map online once, but I didn't see anything marked for Forest Park. I'm not sure how old the map was, since Forest Park at one time was also called Harlem (very early it its history, early or mid-1900s I think).

RE: Trolley "car stop" signs

Chris
I don't think Forest Park was anything major on the CA&E other than just another stop until 1951 or so when the line was cut with the CTA because of the Congress expressway project until that point CA&E trains just rolled straight on thru regardless of track ownership.
BTW just got word yesterday that the Warrenville City Hall was demolished, CA&E fans knew it as the Warrenville depot, efforts to save the structure obviously failed.Gary S
