LA fans:
You'll want to make room in your LA carhouse for this streetcar. It's in the two-tone green color scheme of the Los Angeles MTA and included with the streetcar files are texture updates for the two other previously uploaded LA PCCs. Re-live the glamorous days of LA in the Forties and Fifties when Hollywood and streetcars were at their zenith.Frederick Dreany

RE: Los Angeles MTA PCC uploaded

With all these cars coming out for traction, just might have to do a small traction route. BTW, anyone doing the Red Trains from the SF bay area?Los Angeles MTA PCC uploaded – image 3

John:
That's exactly the kind of response I was hoping for. As you mentioned, the whole area of Pacific Electric traction is still untouched. The southern California region was rich in traction history. Glad to see that some of it is returning to the real world.Frederick Dreany

RE: Los Angeles MTA PCC uploaded

John,I'm actually working on the PEry Arrowhead Hot Springs Line right now. This is the first route I've attempted to build. I actually live just a few blocks away from the old right-of-way on Electric Avenue in San Bernardino. I still have quite a bit left to do on the route, but I'll keep you posted. And yes, I've noticed that no one has modelled any PE cars, other than the steeple cabs that Tim Muir made. I'm trying to repaint another interurban to more or less resemble a PE car. I don't have a 3d modelling program, so I'm using Matt Austin's 1100 series interurban. I'll ask him first before I upload it here. I'm using TGAtools2 and MS Paint to repaint it. The only problem I am still having is that in the exterior view, the windows don't look transparent anymore. They just look like solid black squares. I discussed this problem in another post, but for some reason it got partially cut off. Maybe you might be able to help with this? Anyway, when I'm finished with the PE repaint and if I get the OK from Matt, I'll upload it so we won't be completely without any PE cars. I've never repainted anything before, so it won't be completely accurate to any specific car or PE class, but will just in general resemble a PE steel interurban.Chris

RE: Los Angeles MTA PCC uploaded

Hi Chris,Always happy to see people working with traction. Feel free to upload a repaint of my old 1100 car. It is looking pretty tired now, as it has been eclipsed by some of the newer traction stuff to come out, but it is still pretty fun to take for a bit of a blast. I reckon it'd look great in PE colours, and mabye the Mesaba car, which will shortly be finished, would look good in PE colours too. Enjoy, thanks for your efforts,

RE: Los Angeles MTA PCC uploaded

Matt,Great! Thanks! Like I mentioned, this is my first attempt at repainting, so don't be too disappointed with what I've done to your car! Hehehe. It isn't going to be completely accurate, but should be close enough to a PE interurban for the general idea. I still need to work a little on the trim around the doors and windows so there will be less flicker, and I want to add a little more detail to the passenger view, but this is what I have so far. I'll keep you guys posted!

RE: Los Angeles MTA PCC uploaded

WOW...great stuff, Frederick! I have the Gorgi die-cast model of this car sitting on a shelf above my computer. Gorgi had done some 20 or so models of PCC cars of diferent cities. BTW - did you notice that the photo I uploaded in green is car #3164 which you had previously done in the orange?Rich

RE: Gorgi PCC models!

Rich:
That's a nice LA model. Gorgi makes beautiful stuff. It's a shame they didn't choose to electrically power it themselves, considering the unusual popularity of the PCC, however they look good just sitting on the shelf by themselves. Bowser and a company called GHB sell power units for these cars. One of the owners of GHB was a real trolley buff and a good friend of mine for many years. I've lost track of him since I've moved. Anyway, thanks for sharing that pic with us.Frederick Dreany
