Playing around with TSM and PSP, I came up with a new motor for the Mesaba route, based on the orange express motor uploaded last week. It has both freight doors open (definately for summer use ), some crates inside, single trolley-pole, with steps and grabs added for gaining entrance to the side doors, plus a new maroon coat of paint with gold lettering.

RE: Mesaba Boxmotor

Tim,
Looks good, but their motors were 101 & 102. Can you change the numbers before uploading. (It's also gonna get real drafty in there at -35F)

Dave,I intended these as ficticious motors, but I'll be glad to re-number them before I upload. I say *them* because I have one with the doors closed too. A couple days, they should be available.Dave, did the Mesaba have a logo? I'd kind of like to have some sort of logo on the sides.Tim

I wish they had, but I've never found any pictures or references to any kind of logo. The cars didn't even have the name on the letterboard, only in small letters near the front door on the side of the car. Here's a poor picture of a real one.Mesaba Boxmotor – image 3

Dave, did these boxmotors share the same dimensions of Matt's ME 10? It looks very similar in detail and proportion. It looks like a simple re-paint of Matt's car would give us a truer version of the prototypes, you think?TimPS, I'm going to number the motors 103 and 104 to leave room for the 101 and 102 just in case.

Tim,
The box motors were three feet shorter (not a big deal), but they had wooden ("scribed") siding, as opposed to the passenger motors that were steel. The other interesting thing was that they had a 5 ton hoist that could swing out either door to pick up heavy stuff off the platforms.

RE: Mesaba Boxmotor-101 and 102

Dave,
I think this is do-able. Fred Huntley and I are working on this along with the 103 and 104.We just might get a dedicated Mesaba Boxmotor. I'll get ahold of Matt Austin and talk to him about this.Tim

A query re this car. Tim pointed out the need to change from passenger-type steps to stirrup ones, but should I put one at diagonally opposite corners? Also, what about bulkheads and interior details. The driprails on the roof are easy. Thanks, Dave, for the pic.Cheers,

RE: Mesaba Boxmotor

Here are the two motors, 103 and 104, taking on milk at The Oaks. These will be available soon.
Mesaba Boxmotor – image 4
Because of the smoking chimneys of the coal-stoves inside, these will be found in the "diesel" selection in the Consist builders. But they are trolley freight motors. Also, in regards the 101 and 102, Matt has agreed to modify the ME 10 coach body to the dimensions of the ME boxmotors. I'll do the texturing for both motors. My Thanks again to Matt for his generosity and esprit de corps.Cheers!Tim

My thanks to all of you for your continued efforts on behalf of the Mesaba Electric. BTW, is that a destination sign over the end door?

RE: Mesaba Boxmotor

You're very much welcome, Dave. Yes, that's a destination sign over the end doors, a left-over from the Oregon Water Power & Railway Co. On the Mesaba motors it says: "Waypoints"Cheers,Tim

Tim, really nice work. I'm off my backside and have got back into the Mesaba car work. I'll finish the modifications of No 10 to make a boxmotor, and I'm trying to finish the cab too. With Tim's fantastic skinning work, they camn be done in no time. I reckon the best bet will be to alias the sounds to one of the fantastic sound folders available. A query; do you think it would be good to put the sound folders in the common sound area so they can be aliased to different cars? Also, how many folders are there? it seems that the Brill sounds are different from the L&PS sounds, or am I imagining things?Well, this has given me the boost I need: I'm baaack!!!!Oh yeah, Tim, what camcfg settings do you use, as your shots are always so lifelike? Congrats on 1000 posts.Cheers,

for...?Ooops! Well, here is a screen of the (very early) Mesaba boxmotor. I dunno what I've done, but the screenshot has come out really blurry. With a bit more TSM work and some of Tim's smooth texturing work, it should be a nice car.Cheers,

Hi Dick,
And thanks for your comments. The 103 and 104 are going through their last bit of work. The 101/102 are in the early stages of developement, but we've got a headstart on those. Matt, the 101/102 is looking good. I can't wait to paint 'em up and letter 'em out. Cheers!!!Tim

RE: Mesaba Boxmotor

Did some more work on 101 last night. I've remapped the textures, so the boxmotor has its own named tex files, saving on confusion. I'd love to try and build the crane, what a sight that would be! My new PC fried in the heat last night, and it'll be a few weeks before I can get my brother to fix it up for me, so I'm using my old machine, and things are somewhat slower. Oh well, at least that doesn't impact on TSM time! I'm not going to rush it, but I reckon about a week should have it ready.Cheers,

RE: Mesaba Boxmotor

Sorry to hear about the PC Matt, are the fires still burning and any place near your parish? Another quiztion: will the Mesaba box motor have couplers? They sometimes used them on the front of a passenger local. And while your back at TSM, could you take a window or two out of #10, and make it a 45' passenger trailer?

RE: Mesaba Boxmotor

Hi Dave,The fires were eventually put out, thankfully. I spent a few days in New Zealand about three weeks ago; as we were flying out of Sydney, we could see large fires and smoke both north and south of the city. The night of my return saw unseasonally heavy rains which helped the fireys get the upper hand.I'm going to drop a set of couplers on the motor, and lose the pilots as the photo indicates.I'll use Tim's excellent drawbars from the Brill car, mabye I'll enlarge them a bit, or I could modify the TMER&L 1100 couplers. I'll have a play around and see what looks the best. There's all the underfloor plumbing to finish as well.A trailer? No worries. That should be easy, and I'll talk to Tim about textures. I wouldn't be able to do this without Tim's generous help. I'm delighted that the MSTS traction scene has really gone ahead, with all the new stuff available. Thanks guys,Cheers,

Cool! I am going to download that and an electric route!
