Just uploaded: MSTS Brooklyn, ex-Boston, picture-window PCC 3303
as restored By The Brooklyn Historic Railway Organization and
painted in the colors of the original Brooklyn PCCs. The organization hopes to eventually run the PCCs on the streets of downtown Brooklyn. You can get a head start with this MSTS model.Frederick Dreany

RE: PCC streetcars for Brooklyn, NY

PCC = Presidents' Conference CommitteeIt was a committee within the electric railway association (I forget the exact name or acronym) back in the early '30s when the need for salvation of the electric street railways was desperately needed. The group set up the research organization that designed the new car from the ground up. Most cities bought into it (New York's Manhattan was an exception). Manufacturers were licensed to build the cars and licensing fees went to support the research group. Brooklyn received the first order of 100(?) with one going to Boston. There have been books written about the PCC cars. The entire story is quite impressive, showing what industry can do if it has a mind to do something. Technology developed back then can still be found in modern LRVs and rapid transit cars.Sorry this is a little sketchy. I don't have any of my books here with me.Al

For anyone interested in the full story of the PCC car, see "The PCC Car; An American Oriiginal" by Seymour Kashin and Harre Demoro. It's very interesting.Cheers,
Al

Matt:
Thanks, I really appreciate your approval, and before you discover that there are some errors, please download file "upd3303" which should appear soon in the file library with texture updates for this car as well as a brand new Boston picture window PCC (which also had some errors in its interior). It's been fun making these textures. Sure wish I could do some 3D modeling as well, but I'm glad that these PCC textures have been received so well. Have a great holiday!Frederick Dreany

Update: The latest texture fixes for the Bklyn and MTA streetcars will now be included with new "T" PCC3301. Look for it shortly. A lot of fans love these cars and I wanted them to be the best I can make.Frederick Dreany

RE: PCC streetcars for Brooklyn, NY

Frederick, thanks so much for the Brooklyn PCC! Brings back a lot of childhood memories. The street I grew up on had the Coney Island cars to the east and the McDonald cars to the west. One thing I see on the car you made is incorrect, the centre exit door on the port (left) side, I don't recall any cars in Brooklyn with that door.Rich

RE: PCC streetcars for Brooklyn, NY

Rich:
You might just want to add some more memories to those childhood ones since this train-sim PCC is modeled after three (real-life) ex-Boston picture window units (repainted into the livery of the old Brooklyn and Queens Transit Company) which now call Brooklyn home and which have been cleared to run on the streets of downtown Brooklyn in the near future. You are correct in that the originals you remember were early model PCCs called air-electrics. By the way, I also called Brooklyn home for several years and am always proud to say I have lived there, but I did miss out on the trolley era that you remember. It must have been wonderful.Frederick Dreany
