In a few days, I'll be offering some "baldies" for beta testing. These cars are the old chicago el cars that were used in the very early days of the el. The cars will come in two versions: High detail, and Low detail models. Differences being:High Detail models will have as many of the original car details I can press into them. They will be as accurate as possible, within certain tolerances.Low Detail Models will be the bare bones model. They will look accurate to the eye, but the trained eye may notice that some details are modeled by using skins and mapping. These models will also go easy on the framerates of slower systems. So, you want to beta test? Give me a post here, with your email. I must use Yahoo to send you the files, and they may have to be broken up into one or two messages to get everything. Testing should start early next week, with an ideal release date of the cars being before christmas.Later, I will be posting pics of the Mike I started work on for Jon, along with something I've been messing with for a while. I'll give you a hint. It's very old and it isn't traction. (but you just might want it)Beta testers are free to upload the models, (in fact, one might be requested to do so, due to my connection) Repaint them, abuse them, have fun, I really don't care I just want the errors you find Well, that's my bit guys. Start drooling. (pics tomarrow)

Magick:
I'd certainly be interested in your Chicago el car betas in both low and high detail versions. You can email me at fdreany43@aol.com. I'm an old el car (New York) rider myself.Frederick Dreany

RE: Upcoming Beta Test!

I'd also be interested in doing some beta testing of your models. I've got some pretty nasty curves and dips on my route, so I want to see how they behave. May address is: captvdeo@attbi.com

RE: Upcoming Beta Test!

Okie, I may have them before sunday. The only thing that's hanging me up right now is the fact I don't have a dead side on shot of the cars. Pics I've seen show that most of these cars had overhead wire pick up as well as the third rail. The beta I send you will have tied down poles. If you want one with a raised pole, Say so and the wire height.

RE: Upcoming Beta Test!

Sorry about your crash. It happens to me too. When your able to work on the files, my preference is for 1 raised pole suitable for the Tokyo-Hakone route wire height.Frederick Dreany

RE: Upcoming Beta Test!

Okie. I've got a rebuilt baldy ready to skin. WHat's holding me up the most now is the lack of a straight on side shot. I think, I'll just create a skin using my experience. It may not be perfect, but it'll give you something to test.

RE: Upcoming Beta Test!

I'm definitely interested! I'd be interested in both the low and high detail versions. I've started working on the Pacific Electric Railway Arrowhead Hot Springs Line here in California (again) and it has some REALLY nasty grades and curves! So I could really put your El through the paces and see how it does! I moved to California in 1987 when I was about 9 years old, but I used to live in Chicago. I rode the el trains with my mom many, many times. Of course, it was all CTA by then. The Chicago, Aurora and Elgin, and the other CTA predecessors were long gone by the time I was around. Oh boy...how I do miss those el trains though. I rode the red and blue striped CTA cars. Always looked forward to it every time I had a chance. I lived just a few blocks away from the Des Plaines Street station in Forest Park.My e-mail address is gatecityca@aol.com or you can also send e-mail to me at gatewaycityca@yahoo.com I check both regularly.Chris

RE: Upcoming Beta Test!

I grew up in Chicago long enough ago to have riden these cars in service. I'd really like to try them out and it would give me the push I need to set up an AI meet with CA&E equipment. Are you working on 4000s with trolley poles?ThanksWallydim01521@nilenet.com

RE: Upcoming Beta Test!

I don't think the baldies were able to use trolley poles due to the rolled metal roof. The other 4000's could, due to the standard wood and canvas roofs.

RE: Upcoming Beta Test!

I'm still interested in those El trains! E-mail me at gatecityca@aol.com or gatewaycityca@yahoo.com whenever you're ready!Oh, by the way, CGW and Denverrails...I'm not sure what area you live in now CGW, but I have a ton of pictures from when I lived in Forest Park, so if you need any help with the scenery for your route, let me know and I might be able to offer a little. The whole area where I lived was a throwback to the 1900s, especially Ferdinand Blvd, just east of Desplaines Avenue.Chris

RE: Upcoming Beta Test!

Chris, Thanks, I rode the CA&E in revenue service and am waiting for the route. I'm gonna try to repaint the CA&E skins for CNS&M for the L route that has been posted.I agree that the was neat with the Soo and B&OCT crossing the CA&E at grade and the interchange with the IHB at Mannheim Road.Wally

Chris
Actualy I live in the Chicago area and my Mother in Law happened to come across Sunset Lines Vol. 1 for 36.00(I know you're not supposed to ask what a gift costs but I thought M in L dropped a C note or two)
so I now have a decent idea of the area but thanks

RE: Upcoming Beta Test!

I'll be getting y'all copies to test soon, few things, baldies used trolley poles I've got pictures of them doing so. The name baldy comes not from the lack of poles, but the lack of a clerestory roof.
